Then why don't you stay in the right lane right on someones ass to conserve more fuel, not risk getting ticketed, and not annoy others who have better places to be than behind a slow poke?

Wow, there are some angry people in here today!

As an aggressive driving, always late constant commuter you guys need to calm down. This guy is already exceeding the speed limit and you think he needs to go faster because you planned your day poorly? PIssed off because he is inconsiderate? How about you, who think you dictate the flow of every one elses traffic.

I lane hop, I speed (10 over is about my max though) and I get frustrated but I don't tailgate and I dont break check. Those are two things that can quickly ruin my car and endanger my family.

if you are in the passing lane, actively passing, and already breaking the law by speeding to make that pass more quickly....

why is is my responsibility to go EVEN FASTER just to get out of YOUR ***hole way?

      oh wait.

      its not.

I think the issue that people are arguing is more to do with he was in the left lane the whole time. He said he didn't move over to pass someone, he was there already and passing people on the right slowly (admitted). So if you are in the left lane and see someone approaching at a higher rate of speed do you sit there and play lane patrol or do you either slide in behind or in front of the car in the right lane safely? My judgement would be to increase speed, pass car on right, signal my intent as I am doing the pass and then move. 99% of the time the person coming up behind will either keep distance or back off since they know what your intent is.

Of course I rarely encounter this because I don't get passed, I'm typically the passer.

Similar thing happens here, there are 2 lane way between cities and the limit is 80Km/h and some stretches it is 100, however, the right side is most of the times packed with slow cars and heavy trucks during normal days (even weekends) . your only option is to take the left side, which I usually do around 110 or 120 Km/h. Going the right side is not an option, but there's always a moron doing 140+ that thinks the left side is only for him, and keeps flashing high beams to others in the left. (mostly high end cars and mk4s , rarely truckers)

I usually dont yield those guys until I see a clear in the right side to safely switch lanes and slow down to that lane speed. I kind of support the OP.

If i'm doing 130 in a 100 (km/hr) and some guy is tailgating me, I'll move over, let him pass, then follow him. Most of the time, they spot the cops faster than I would.

Oh and as for burning more fuel?

Stop being the left lane hog that only serves to create traffic. It's the idiots like you that do this sort of thing in an 18-wheeler and back traffic up for a mile. Can't say that I would highly recommend aggressive driving such as brake checking, either.
So you're selective in your choice of idiotic aggressive driving characteristics?

How about being less of a dbag and just getting out of the way of faster traffic? Even if it means hitting the throttle a little harder? Sick and tired of being held up by people like this.

GTFO back into the slow lane and let people going faster use the left lane.

Move to right lane, allow faster traffic to pass, then move back to the left lane and complete your pass. It isn't difficult.

The thing that bothers me about our Finnish friend is that he lives in Finland.

We all know how anal Europeans are about camping in the left lane..Fact of the matter is, it's annoying. You're not the police. Here in Canada the limit is 100 km/h on the highway. Most people travel about 115km/h. I prefer around 125-130, so it's not like I'm doing 160 and flying by cars at an astounding rate. I'm not endangering anyone, I just feel more comfortable traveling at a higher speed.

You shouldn't dictate how fast others go on the highway. If you're "concerned about your safety", stay out of that lane, it's that simple. And if you're only going 8 km/h over the limit I'm sure you wouldn't mind going 8 km/h slower and following the cars in the right lane.

So even if Car A is already technically speeding (in the legal sense) to pass Car B, he should slow down and move over for Car C because Car C is speeding MORE?

I love the logic of this place sometimes. Really.

Yesterday I had a guy holding me up for several minutes -- he was riding in the passing lane, doing under the speed limit, pacing the car in the right lane. Tons of glorious open road ahead of him.

When a spot finally opened up on the right, I changed over and began moving around, only to hear his truck do a full throttle kickdown and start lunging forward. I already had my signal on and just continued my original trajectory over into the left lane a few feet ahead of him, forcing him to go from full throttle to full brake, which resulted in a hilarious nosedive and an exasperated "WTF" hand gesture from him.

I just don't get people sometimes. I didn't do anything to antagonize the guy.

I'm constantly aware of my surroundings. If I'm doing 8 over (like 78 in a 70), passing a slower vehicle, and see someone streaking up doing 90, I generally goose it a little to complete my pass more quickly so the other car doesn't have to brake much, if at all.

I know what other cars do that annoy me and I go out of my way to avoid doing those same things to other people. If I can do a few little things to help keep the road clear and to enhance the calmness of people around me, I do. I also try to never, ever be in someone's way.

It's called being courteous. I sometimes speed, but if someone is going noticeably faster than me and I'm in the left lane then I get over as soon as possible. If I'm passing someone but doing it at a slower than normal rate then depending on my current speed I'll either speed up or slow down and get over. It's not my place to dictate their speed
