Thread: TireRack is AMAZING

  1. 11-02-2012 12:34 PM #106
Since this is like a tirerack review thread...

When I bought my car, I thought it would only need rear tires, so I ordered them - they were delivered next day. When I went to pick up the car, I found out it needed fronts too.

So I ordered the fronts a week later. There was a promo going on for a 50$ rebate when you buy 4 khumo tires.

Even though I made 2 separate orders a week apart, they mailed the rebate credit card to me a few days later without me even asking. Tirerack is on my list of good companies, along with amazon, and logitech.

i was very surprised by this. i have bought at least 16 tires from TR and would do so again. they are a quality outfit. in fact, ntb is currently running a buy two get two special, and i STILL did better with the local shop. maybe i just got lucky. maybe it's because the owner is running for mayor, i dunno. still, it feels good to support local shops sometimes.
I first used DTD probably 13-14 yrs ago and after all was said and done saved close to $100 even after having the tires mounted locally. The last couple times, within the last 4-5 yrs, I've looked to purchase tires, Tire Rack and DTD were very close on pricing when you consider one of them ships for free. The difference in prices between the online dealers and the local shops has gotten so small that factoring in having tires mounted, there isn't much savings.

Tire and wheel packages are probably still where money is saved. Local shops even advertise the rebates on tires as well.

This is a really dumbass thread. Let's all congratulate someone for DOING THEIR DAMN JOB.

When other places suck as hard as most local tire shops, Tire Rack is amazing. But you may as well say McDonald's is a gourmet treat if your other option is a soup kitchen.

Let's all go out and get CSB tattoos. Yay, TCL!

What we're congratulating is TireRack's ability to do their job beyond normal expectations. Ordering tires and having them delivered in 2-3 days is doing your job. Ordering tires and having them at your door in 23 hours is exceptional.

This. Like I said earlier in the thread. Ordered my wheels and tires Monday at around 3, they showed up mounted and balanced with all new lugs Tuesday at 10am, were on my car by 11. Hard to beat that sort of service. Even if I'm not going to buy from them which is rare, I do a good majority of my research based of their customer reviews and specs. I've bought around 10 sets of tires from them in the last 8 years.

    Jeez Jeff, chill!

I love Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct is cool too. Especially now that I have my own tire mounting machine.

Many installers who get their tires from TR can get better pricing that is provided to the general public through the website. Worth a shot checking with your installer before you purchase.

    Hankook V12 225/50/16 $420 - $100EbayRebate - $80ManfRebate = $240 SHIPPED

I got in on the Ebay & DTD Rebate, which stack with Manufacturers Rebate, for $180 back in cards.

I have always loved TR and TireBuyer, but for $60 a piece shipped?

For the R compounds and rallycross (snows or gravels) tires I have mounted so far, no need for a balancer. I am currently on the hunt for a used balancer though (and have a craigslist notification setup), as I would like my street tires balanced. The one set of street tires I have mounted, there is only noticeably shimmy/vibration from 50-55 mph, but they were on straight wheels with newish tires. I imagine it would be much worse on more used wheels and tires.

Since getting the machine (Coats 9010E, I believe) in May, I have probably mounted/flipped/dismounted 70 tires. I do not know how I ever got by without one, especially as 2012 was my 9th autocross season and I have probably gone through a 20 sets of tires in that time.

I'm looking for new summer tires...

I've decided on Michelin Pilot Sports in 225/45-17.

Locally I can get them for about 120€ ($131 when I get the VAT back) each.

TireRack has them for $206 each! Throw in shipping and that's significantly more expensive.

For me, TR is only worth it if I want to buy a wheel/tire combo - otherwise it seems that I'm better off going local.

I order a lot of stuff online. I cannot think of a single retailer who regularly delivers online orders in 24 hours or less, let alone something as big/bulky as tires. Even when choosing standard shipping.

Go ahead, which retailer can you name with this reputation?

The one's on Tire Rack for $256 are the ZP's - Zero Pressure run flats. Are you comparing apples to apples.

I borrowed a set of TR wheels and on all four some spokes are thicker than others, lolol. We're talking like .25-.5" variation. Good job TR.

Ordered winter tires yesterday morning (Dunlop Wintersport M3), they were on my doorstep this evening. Now they're in the back of the car.

    Well done, Tire Rack.

For Canadians that order from TR - Is the "final" price an actual final price? I'm seeing huge savings on Michelin X-Ice3 ($220 per tire in the GTA compared to $150 per tire from TR) even after shipping/fees its $200 cheaper for a set
