Hmmm... Politicians will attack anything I guess.

    Quote Originally Posted by Artical
Politicians will go after any perceived weakness to win an election. And to the Maine Republican Party, there's nothing weaker than being an orc.

Maine GOP communications director David Sorensen sent out an email today detailing the lurid gaming life of Democratic State Senate candidate Colleen Lachowicz, whom he bashes for "living a time-consuming double life as a member of the World of Warcraft community."
Indeed, Lachowicz plays World of Warcraft as an orc rogue named Santiaga. She's played a lot, too; Santiaga is a Level 85 assassin and a member of the "Wreck List" guild. We know this because the GOP has handily created a website entirely devoted to monitoring Lachowicz's gaming sessions and chronicling her posts to online gaming forums.

To Sorensen, Lachowicz's interest in World of Warcraft is not only puerile, but sheds light into the kind of leader she might be for the state of Maine.

"In Colleen's online fantasy world, she gets away with crude, vicious and violent comments…Maine needs a State Senator that lives in the real world, not in Colleen's fantasy world," the Maine GOP writes on the site. They go on to list out a number of terrible things Lachowicz has posted, dinging her on her bloodlust ("I like to stab things"), laziness ("Ahhh, my productivity has never been the same"), and just general geekiness ("I love playing my rogue").

Lachowicz isn't the only Democrat who digs games. Last month, former president Bill Clinton told The Daily Show's Jon Stewart that he was "hooked" on a game, though he didn't specify which one.

Politicians have gotten in hot water over playing games before. In 2009, two Connecticut lawmakers were chided after being caught playing Solitaire in the middle of a budget debate. A year later, a city councilman in Bulgaria was dismissed from his post after repeatedly being warned about playing Farmville during meetings.

In this case, however, Lachowicz isn't being slammed for playing on the job. She's being slammed for playing, period. While she should probably back off a bit during election season, at least she's stabbing virtual objects instead of, say, shooting real-world hunting partners. Orcs get no respect.

LOL I was just about to start a new thread about this. This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, as far as trying to come up with dirt on an opponent

Already read about this in a few places. It really is ridiculous.

The bluehairs who will be vehemently opposed to her will really eat this up though. ****ty photoshop job AND hating video games. Serious business.

This is what American politics has come to. It's incredibly pathetic.

I used to play WoW with a California Congressman. He stopped playing shortly after he started campaigning for election.

There are a couple of heated election campaigns going on here in San Diego currently. One for Mayor and one for a senate seat.

Both sides seem to be slamming the other side for being millionaires. Seriously? They never give any details, they just make comments like "not only did he stretch your grandmother's un-lubed cinnamon ring, but he's also a millionaire"

It just doesn't make any sense to me to slam on someone for being a millionaire. I would guess that all 4 of the candidates are easily worth more than a million dollars. One of the dudes running for mayor slams his opponent for being a millionaire and touts his own record for turning down his current $75k annual salary as a member of the city council because he sold his DC based consulting business for something like $10 million dollars a couple years ago. Guess what dude, that makes you a millionaire too.

    More like 13%.

Anyhow, I use your argument with Mormons. Why should he pay a full tithe as his God commands when he already gives so much? Nevermind that his church teaches that even a poor person should pay a full tithe even if that means trusting in God that he won't go hungry, and that with Romney's many millions per years and hundreds of millions in investments it would be relatively painless to pay a full tithe. But it's just a Mormon God, so who cares what he wants.

Oh no! A politician with an inexpensive hobby! She should be out racing cars/showing dessage horses/hosting expensive fundraisers.

RE Romney; I paid ~25% rate last year. I don't begrudge him for his low rate, but I do the tax code and his inability to follow his father's tradition of releasing multiple years of tax returns.

not a bad hit piece. depending on the list they sent it to, they could have made it even bigger, but that is probably the max size for that postal rate... plus i wouldn't have used her logo (don't want any positive association), probably would have changed it to different colors or just used her name. i would have also made the colors a bit better/brighter, particularly the green of the orc.

not sure what the other side looks like, but the website should be bigger. i just looked at it, not bad, the blog style of it is pretty good.
