Thread: 98 jetta wont shut off!!! please help

  1. 10-05-2012 09:29 AM #1
I have a 98 Jetta wolfsburg. I went to the car wash. Everything was fine. I went home n parked it turned the alarm on. Then about 1030 the alarm was going off. So I went outside and the radio was on and dash was lit up as if I were about to start the car. So I started it. Then it wouldn't shut off unless I stalled it out. N the accecories stay on unless I unhook the battery. I replaced the ignition switch. Same crap no change . So any ideas???

Could be a sticking start relay. I believe it's the relay 175? I could be wrong. Try pulling it and see if your problem is solved

the module itself could be going bad.

disconnect it and bypass it with a jumper wire/clip so you can start the car up. if you dont have any more electrical problems, its the module.

Water at the carwash found a way into the car and caused a short in the wiring.

Do you have a sunroof? If so, it's possible that water leaked down behind the dashboard, and got into the fuse/relay wiring or the alarm module.
