But I just want to be safe. I got an offer on some H&R sport springs. I know the car will sit lower since the cabbies weigh more. Do you think the wheels will clear the fenders if I lower it on the sport springs or should I just avoid the risk and go for coilovers? Also what precautions should I take before lowering the car? (oil pan, replacing other things etc....) Here is how it sits today...The first pic looks like it would clear fine but idk about it with the top down and a rear passenger......

i dont have any experience with those springs, but my friend had issues with his drop springs on his cabby as they were to soft in the rear and he would rub. but he was running porsche phone dials.
stock wheel size you should be good. but if you drive with people in the backseats often then id go with coils probably.

I bought new Raceland lowering springs for $40.oo from them & my Cabby sat sexy & handled way better

NOTE i did cut 1 coil off the front springs cause cabbys tend to do wheelies when the tops down.

I also ran new Tokico shock & struts

You'll be fine with stock wheels and balloon tires. Just make sure you get some good struts.

I had KYB struts and H&R race springs, dropped it a couple of inches and handled amazing on stock wheels without rubbing issues.

If anything, you'll have more issues with rubbing and fender clearance with coilovers depending on the height you go with on the coils. Often you will need to run spacers too with coils to prevent rubbing in the front. You'll also need to look into rolling your fenders with coils depending on how low you go. That's when you have to worry about your oil pan and such.

Just springs and struts, you have no real issues or modifications to worry about.

**** 40 bucks? Thats hard to turn down.......Where does one buy these? Can't find a purchase link on their site. Too bad I can't buy more low in the front to compensate for the wheelie.

    I found this http://www.racelandus.com/lowering-springs#vw
but I see no way to purchase.

I ran H&R sport spring with Koni Yellows on my Jetta for a few years. Rode nice, handled good. It'll be just fine, here's mine with 15's and 195/50 tires-

I vote springs on cabby's as well. Just don't buy any "cup kit" of ebay like I did. They should be called "cup sh#ts" mine only lasted 6k before it showed signs of needing replaced

if you get bilstein shocks for the rear they have adjustable spring perches.
