Sorry to be the one to blow out your candle, but no its not as simple as just dropping in a 1.8t. Yes it will physically fit in; maybe even just "drop" in. While I don't know all the ins and outs to the swap as Ive never wanted to do it, I do know there is much more...mostly electrical IIRCC. As for the "is a there a big difference between a 1.6t and 1.8t"... Yes. Always remember this little catch phrase "there's no replacement for displacement" Your also not making and even comparison. The 1.6t is a diesel and the 1.8t is good ole dino petrol. Good luck & have fun

No no no, my friend. Unless you have no other use for your dollar bills, don't do this. The 1.6 while being good at what it is; it is not the platform in which to base a build on. For the time/effort/expense of boosting the 1.6 and its "rewards" (if you call it that?) you would essentially be making the same power as a 1.8 NA. My suggestion (take it for what it is) is to run your 1.6 into the dirt. When it is toast then swap in an ABA and you will have everything you were looking to accomplish by boosting the 1.6 (minus the turbo).
