Alot of this is incorrect for the Mk3 MFA.

First off, I dont take credit for any of this. All information was gathered using the search feature. I simply combined it into one useful thread with the answers to the most common questions.
Functions:
Switch in position #1.
1. Present time
2. Time since startup
3. Average fuel use
4. Distance travelled
5. Average speed
6. Engine oil temp
7. Outside temp
Switch in position #2
Shows you all the same functions, only it is an overall average since last reset. Position #1 resets everytime the car is restarted. Position #2 only resets when you reset it with the stalk.
Hidden features and how to access them:
1.Switch your MFA switch to position 1
2.Switch your car to "ON" (Don't start it!)
3.Press and hold the mode button
4.Turn the key to "Off", then back on.
5.Release the mode button.
Now when you cycle through the modes, you get this info:
-Engine MAP code
-Country code (1=Canada, 4=US)
-speedometer drive ratio
-upper RPM limit
-lower RPM limit
-deceleration fuel shutoff pressure (mbars)
-LCD Test
And, if you do this:
1.Switch your MFA switch to position 2
2.Switch your car to "ON" (Don't start it!)
3.Press and hold the mode button
4.Turn the key to "Off", then back on.
5.Release the mode button.
6.Start the car and drive
You now get these values:
-Test checksum of programmed bytes in memory
-intake manifold vacuum (mbar)
-engine rpm's
-fuel consumption
-signal from speed sensor
-oil temperture
-Outside temperature
If for any reason your ambient sensor goes bad or the wiring goes bad, the mfa will skip over this option. I would assume its the same for the rest of the sensors.
Using vag com to change the settings: US vs EU readings
After selecting control module [17-Instruments];
1- Under "Advanced Functions", select [Recode-07]
2- Make a note of the 5-digit number in the "Software Coding" box in case you need to reset it. The third digit is the country code and will be the one that is changed. Do not change any of the other numbers, and do not change the workshop code.
3- Enter the new third digit, select [Do It!].
The available codes are:
1 - Europe (24 hour clock, metric units, °C)
2 - USA (12 hour clock, Imperial units, °F)
3 - Canada (12 hour clock, metric units, °C)
4 - Great Britain (24 hour clock, Imperial units, °C)
5 - Japan (24 hour clock, metric units, °C)
Note: Japanese gas mileage is calculated differently than other metric countries.
6 - Saudi Arabia (24 hour clock, metric units, °C)
7 - Australia (24 hour clock, metric units, °C)
Europe, Saudi Arabia and Australia appear to all have the same display results.

Not really helpful..
The only thing I havent really checked is the vag com section and the diy install.
Please correct what is wrong so we can make this a useful thread. Or at the very least, tell me what is wrong and I will try to:
A. Correct the wrong information.
B. Remove anything that I cannot find the correct information for.

The part "Using vag com to change the settings: US vs EU readings". dont work for an mk3. Becurse the mk3 has no diag for Speedo.
-------------------------------------------
And the "Hidden features and how to access them:" are wrong to. Here is the correct way.
* Hold the Button for switching between total and session km/miles
* Switch on the ignition.
* Turn off the ignition.
* Switch on the ignition.
* Release the button.
* Start the engine.
Now you have this options:
1 - distance pulse
2 - Display mode clock
3 - DZM code
4 - Number of cylinders
5 - Display Test
6 - encoder for speed
7 - Tachometer
8 - Software Version

Btw. get in NA no 4 Cyl. MFA? I see that the UK Cluster have miles and mfa for 4 Cly but without the options of the NA Cluster (Cel, Seat Bell etc.)
