Need new tires for my R32. I am not satisfied with the OEM Dunlop tires, will not buy them again. They make too much noise!
Any suggestions?

Quiet and high performance usually dont go hand in hand. I used to run pzero nero a/s on my wifes 337. They were a good all around tire. I have potenzas re970 on the r. They roll quiet but are loud on bumps
Drive a hybrid. I need your gas. .:R

Oem dunlop's are garbage. I got Michelin pilot super sports and they are better in every way, the best tires I've ever used. More comfortable, less noise and most importantly, better handling characteristics.
If your gas cap light comes on even if you think you tightened the cap, try pulling on the cap as you tighten it. Worked for me.

Rather than just giving you a blind response about my favorite tire, I'll ask:
Where are you and what do you need them for?
Do you need all seasons or do you need a straight summer or winter tire?
Is this going to be your only tire setup?
We need details before we can make informed and educated responses to your needs.

I replaced my stock dunlops with Contitrack DWS and so far i love them![]()

There was 2 different OEM dunlops...the A/S which were crap, and the summers, which I had, which were amazing, probably could have gotten 50k miles except for the sidewall bubble I got in one of them.
As for the OP, if you are looking for A/S, I'd also recommend DWS, running those as my "snows" for winter

Have been extremely happy with my conti extreme dw's for the summer and nokian Hakkapeliitta R's in the winter, might depend on your weather.

I put a new set of Kuhmo Ecsta 4X's on the 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS (180 hp 1.8L NA 4-cyl with VVTL-i, 6-spd MT, FWD) I had before my R32. I found them to be a bit greasy in the wet. Nice price, but I wouldn't recommend them. If I were buying today, I would be trying the Conti Extreme DWS for an all-purpose shoe.

That's what I run for a winter tire here in Seattle. Since I'm no longer skiing, a winter tire here is for 'cold and wet', with maybe a day or two of snow to negotiate.
Less noisy than my summer Direzzas, a capable tire with linear release characteristics. Actually kind of fun to drift.

I'm running the same Hankooks, and bought them from Tire Rack, for $507.74, with freight, and then got a $60 rebate, for a net cost of $447.74. This is the best tire summer performance tires for the buck [see Car & Driver test article], but do keep an extra 3--5 pounds of air in these tires, dependent on your driving, due to sidewall flex--two ply rayon.
I measure my tires once a month, and the shoulders are worn 1/32 more than the crown--I do take my corners agressively, and have now added another pound of air, for a cold pressure of 42 pounds. All wear is even across the thread of all tires, except for the crown, as noted.![]()

Take a look at the Tire Rack web for performance AS tires, and the new Bridgestone RE970AS has the Continental DWS rated highter for snow and seasonal traction by the survey users as posted. ALSO, Tire Rack's actual road test confirm the same points for dry and wet performance--they will test for snow this winter.![]()

LOVE my Bridgestone Potenza RE-11s but thay are max summer performance.

I have Conti DWS's (mentioned a couple other times in this thread) and I love them.
If I was going for a "summer" tire I would probably go along the lines of the Conti DW's. It's too wet around the PNW for a "real" summer tire.

My only complaint about them is road noise (fat tread blocks) and harshness, but they are definitely better than the Kumho Ecsta XS I had previously. Are they worth the several hundred dollar price difference? That I'm not sure of yet.
They stick like shiat to a blanket though.
For all-seasons/non-summer, I preach Nokian WR/WRv2. Nokian Hakkapellita are even better, but they are designed for european snow (where they don't salt the roads and a snow base is normal) vs US "snow" (which means cold + mixture of wet & dry roads some of the time, but also slush and snow at others). The Hakkas will school the WR in a real snow/ice test, but if you drive them in the US you're lucky to get one or two seasons out of them because you spend at least 25% of the time driving them on non-snowy pavement which eats them up.![]()
I have installed most of the popular bolt-on mods for a 2008 R32, minus suspension work. I know a lot about electronics and car audio, and have experience with VCDS ("vagcom"). I'm a radar/lidar countermeasure enthusiast. I like track days, autocross, and US Highway 129. I love aural pleasure.

No way in hell the RE-11 will last longer than Proxes T1. The T1 are "UHP" tires, treadwear at 240. The RE-11 are "max performance" tires, treadwear 180. This is why they stick like poop to fleece, but this is also why they won't last.
Max perf tires are designed with dry grip as the absolute priority. These are the tires of choice for guys who autocross in "Street tire" categories, which is why the max perf category at TireRack all seems to sit at 180 treadwear... because Solo2 SCCA rules specify 180 as the lowest wear.Truth be told, most of the manufacturers are lying / pulling BS out their asses with treadwear ratings on these tires anyway. The tires are basically using race tire compound but with tread blocks. They typically tweak the formula a little bit to improve the cold grip so they can go run right after sitting in grid. True race tires actually don't do this (other than autox-compound tires, which are special beasts). The track day guys use different slicks than autox guys for this reason - autox tires get too greasy after 20 minutes of beating on them, they're made for supreme grip at cold, not when warmed up.
So yeah there's a little tire lesson. The head of my local AX club tests tires for a living, so I've learned quite a bit through him.

I'm running Nitto Invo tires and they are a huge improvement over stock. I've been really impressed with the grip this summer and just recently I've found that they're awesome in torrential rain too!
They're not loud, but they're not quiet either... oh and they look awesome![]()

I have the Nokian WRG2 for winter (great AS tire with winter bias, if you get snow where you are) and Nitto Invos for summer (great in rain, ride is good and sticky for the twisies. I am on two seasons on both sets and lots of life left on the tread - I have only put on 10K total miles since getting both sets. Very happy with them.
LOTS of tire options out there and just as many opinions. No "best" answer. Good luck choosing!
