So I ordered one out of a totalled R32. From what I gather it's possible to swap into a 2.5l Rabbit. I found a few DIYs but I'm not finding them very helpful at a certain point...

My issue is with these steps:

I'm not sure how he came up with the new code? Do I make my own or use his?

My Rabbit is a 08, the cluster is already a highline/ full mfd, as is the R32 cluster. I should be able to copy the immo data to the new cluster correct?

Some advice and pointers from someone who has done a gti cluster swap would be great

You can use the same code that you already have with the new cluster. The values are dependent on what options you want. Each "??" in the pop up represents where you would change the value.
For example in the pic above, with the code 0021403

    00??x0x: Options (21)
The ?? are the 3rd and 4th digits. His value is 21, which is Sedan (+16), Washer Fluid warning (+04), Brake Pad warning (+01). Those three give you 21 so that's what you put in. If you wanted to add the seat belt warning (+02), then you would ad 21+2 and enter 23 instead.

    00xx?0x: Country (4)
Here the only change is in the 5th digit. In his case, it's 4, which represents Great Britain.

    00xxx0?: Distance Impluse Number (3)
Only the 6th digits gets changed and in this case its 3 (don't mess with this one - affects the speedo)

    Hope this kinda explains it...

Yes, that clears that up. Now with the adaptations, can I do all of them in a driveway or do I need to do in garage, parking lot like he said?

Driveway should be good; that's where I did mine. If I recall there were a cpl of times I had to back up/move forward so just make sure you have enough space. Good luck

That's what I'm getting if my Rabbit sells. But until then I'm gonna do some small easy mods here and there.

The R cluster only will work in 2008 Rabbits, Jettas, gli, gti. It won't work in anything pre. We tried to install it in a 2007 Rabbit and it wouldn't work.

But you guys can use the GTI or GLI cluster just have to have corresponding years
