Hi, I never thought to check into this before, but I was watching a TV show and they mentioned UV film for home windows.

Our 2004 build house has some odd shaped windows (facing north) that have no treatments so we've experienced some furniture fade as a result.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good product I could install?

I'd like to get something as clear as possible so it doesn't look odd from the street since I wouldn't be doing all the windows, only certain ones.

    Thanks!

We had them on our old house. Like anything else, it's all about prep. They should be virtually invisible from the inside. We had them on our old house and loved them for privacy and energy efficient. Our new(er) house has low-E glass, so we didn't bother.

Just remember, your privacy disappears at night as soon as you turn the lights on.

I'm primarily concerned about smaller 18" windows above some dual pane windows we have that are left open for light to come in continuously. We have higher ceilings so the windows are quite high (one of the reasons we left them open) so privacy is not a concern. But, the constant light is an issue now.

My parents had it installed on their Southern facing windows and I had to do it to my house. I looked around for the film and finally found the good stuff at a store called TAP Plastics and I think they have a website. http://www.tapplastics.com/

The stuff I used is totally clear and you can only tell its there because there is no heat coming thru when you hold your hand up to it.

This topic comes up pretty often here.
I really wish everyone would update their location in their profile!

When we had the front windows tinted on our car a few months ago we talked to the guy about having our south- facing windows done on our house. I haven't gotten around to taking measurements to get a quote...

We have pretty sub-par contractor grade windows and the southern side ones (front of the house) get about 90% of our sun- they let a ton of heat in.

Remember the doofus that tinted his headlights? Same one that applied windshield film from the outside. Wonder whatever happened to him. Probably drove off a bridge at dusk.

I tinted the rooms in my house that get hot during the summer time and it helped a ton. Used Gila tint from Home Depot and installed it myself (with help of a friend). CLEAN WELL BEFORE INSTALLING.

Was really cheap, easy to install and had a great outcome.
