Every mk1 I've had, was just a quarter turn, to pull of the cover, then 2 screws under that. the cover is usually stiff.

Can someone tell me how to get the dome light out of an 82 rabbit? I'm in the process of removing my headliner and I can't figure out how to get it off without breaking something. I'm guessing its some weird little German thing, or I'm more incompetent than I thought

if it is rectangular and has a little metal tab , push that tab towards the other side of light and lift that side out.

The clear dome will just pull out. It's tricky but you can do it with your fingers or pry it out with something thin. It's keyed so it will only go in one way so there is no quarter turn. I doubt you can turn it at all. Once you get the cover out there are screws to remove the other part.
