Thread: Failed Inspection, Need help

  1. 10-06-2012 03:26 PM #1
Hey I own an 2008 wolfburge jetta and failed my inspection today, the reason was the catalyst and o2 sensor are showing up as "not ready" My CEL light is NOT on. Anyone have any idea what this means or what has to be done or ever had this problem

The mods on my car are apr stage 2, apr down pipe, eurojet catback and carbonio intake if that helps you guys out.

    Please help thanks in advance!

have you cleared any engine codes recently? if so, you need to drive the car more to get it to pass those tests. If you have not cleared any codes recently then you may have an issue with the cat/o2 sensor, or possibly the apr tune

More than likely its due to the DP. You can get a scanner to set the codes to ready. I think autozone will have one you can rent if need be. I know when I lived in Cali I had to swap out my DP for the stock one each time I had to get smog done. Good luck.

No I havent had a code in over a year, any chance an exhaust leak could be causing this since I have a bad exhaust leak after my resonator on the catback?

If I set codes to ready with the scanner will that fix the readiness?

Also I forgot to add that I replaced my battery about a month ago, could that have anything to do with it?

It's because you are stage 2, in order to keep the CEL light from coming on, APR disables the rear o2 sensors. Guessing you recently, as in the last year went to stage 2.

Doing so causes them to never to go into "readiness" state. Being your o2 sensors are "not ready" the scanner at the emissions testing place is saying the car isn't ready to have all its sensors read.

Only way to fix this is to go back to stock, with stock DP also, or stage 1.

I've heard of more and more states that do emissions testing going in and checking to make sure all sensors are throwing readiness codes also, not just no codes from emissions related sensors as they know tuners are running catless and just getting tunes that disable those sensors from throwing codes.

I went stage 2 about 2 years ago through my dealership, and have done 2 inspections since then with no problems, this leads me to think when I replaced my battery a month ago it caused something with the ecu or my exhaust leak is causing something, do you think any of those could cause a problem to the readiness?

Stage 2 turns the readiness off...

Your state may have changed how they do inspections, as I mentioned, more and more states are catching on to people doing tunes to get rid of CELs caused by catless exhaust.
