Thread: Looking for cf hood advice.

    I need a new hood and realize a cf hood might be cheaper than buying a new oem hood and dealing with paint and the paint matching. At one point I saw blue weave curious if anyone has pics of the blue weave on a dbp. Also curious of the brand who makes the blue weave.

    I've found a few brands of cf hoods and curious which are the better brands to look for. Which is the most durable and which is the lightest? What are the weight savings? Where is the best pricing?

    I found three different colors of blue. Thinking royal blue might match the closest.

    I still think EuroGear hoods are the way to go.

    I have found some really nice reviews on euro gear hoods. But seem to only find seibon hoods for sale in classifieds.

    I'm rocking a Seibon Hood and I love it. Don't worry about what is the lightest. 3-5 pounds difference means nothing when you have you engine and drivetrain over the front axle. Look at durability and fitment. Do your self a favor and have a body shop fit it (Unless you can do great autobody and have tools). Fitment will never be 100%. The shop I use took 6 hours and a lot of TLC to get it about 95% of OEM.

    Id say between moving the battery and getting a cf hood, those ~40ish lbs off the front is worth it and noticeable...

    So who has the best fitting and durable hood?

    Must be the best part of 1000kg over the front axle area. 40lb is 18.18kg which is 1.8% of the weight over the front axle. Every bit helps but i very much doubt 99.9% of the people on here would ever notice the difference that the weight was removed if you didn`t tell them. If you drive your car with a friend say 180lb + in the passenger seat and the car doesn`t feel off balance etc your sure as hell not going to notice 40 lb. Just my opinion

    As long as you or the buyer of any product is happy that is the main thing. Personally i believe there are a lot of hyped expensive products on the market that people buy like sheep as they read people trying to justify why they just spent hundreds of dollars and many hours fitting something that makes very little if any difference to anything other then a track car where every tenth of a second and few pounds in weight matter.

    Its all going to help.

    Look at the new volkswagen/audi platform. They shaved a few lbs here and there but across 50 or so systems, they removed 220lbs from the car overall.

    So, if you combine light weight wheels, brakes, get the USRT control arms for the 2 lbs savings, a CF hood, move the battery to the rear, remove the SAI, you could shave over 60lbs rotating (brakes and rims) and another 50lbs or so from the front of the car...

    Hood is removing ~ 20lbs
    Battery is relocating ~ 20lbs to the rear
    SAI removes ~ 7lbs i think all said and done
    Control arms save 2lbs a side i believe (might be 2 overall)
    If you got into changing seats, you could save like 30lbs each...
    In you were crazy you could get the ultra light suspension from H&R...
    Pull off the engine covers and reroute some systems to remove material
    I know someone who has shaved like ~ 30 lbs from the cars wiring harness (race car)


    End of story:
    So u can easily remove 50lbs from the front of the car and even more if u want to spend real money and get crazy... Thats definitely noticeable.

    My car is stripped and like you say every bit helps. It just comes down to how much money people want to spend for the benefit gained and hassle involved plus troubles it causes down the line.

    Hood is removing ~ 20lbs

    If you remove the sound deadening material from the hood you only save about 10lb with a fiberglass/carbon hood if that. Nearly everyone i know that has a carbon hood admits it was a a PITA to fit and never fitted properly same as carbon wings etc. Plus they crack easy etc
    I have a light weight battery fitted up front. Putting the battery in the rear moves the weight to the rear but then you also have added best part of 15-20 in extra weight with the thick cable needed to run to the rear.
    SAI removed as it`s a piece of crap that kept getting in the way to be honest
    Control arms. How much to save 2lb and hassle involved....
    Seats changed and rears removed.

    People remove the aircon to save weight but i would rather be comfortable driving when it`s hot then sweating my nuts off when driving around town or on the road.Like i said each to there own but unless a track car 99.9% of people would notice on here with most of this stuff done after spending several thousand dollars on doing so. Personally one of the best steering/handling mods i have done is remove the OEM steering wheel and fit a snap off 330mm wheel. Much better grip on the wheel with less turning plus the wheel doesn`t flex .

    Not looking so much for weight savings but rather I need a hood and keeping a carbon fiber hood as option. Granted weight saving is still nice. I did get a spare DBP hood. But it's not lining up right. Looks like I might need a new latch and right side sits high. Still thinking about a cf hood, but don't really want a black hood on a blue car. Might check out the deft racing blue black cf hood. Undecided.

    everyone says Eurogear is the way to go, I offer no actual help, but Eurogear seems to have the best fitment from what ive seen in person and in the pcitures on here.

    Fitment is everything. I found a used DBP hood in ok shape, and I'm still trying to get it right.
