I've been working all night trying to go back an correct all the crappy wiring that radio shops and previous owners have done to this poor caddy.

All night I've been careful to label all my wiring and not pull any pins out of any connectors, but right now 2 issues have come up that maybe you can help with.

This is what I'm working with:

1st issue is this random (hot?) wire coming from one of the relays (the white one). Not sure where it goes or what it plugs into but I defiantly don't like it exposed.

2nd issue is this random male plug. Not sure where it goes either and I've been working all night and haven't seen a female end.

I'm trying to go through the Bently but I can't figure out how to translate the wiring diagram to what I'm actually looking at in front of me.

the red hot one goes into the batt + slot
your upper (top most) relays have been moved arond, put that LAMBDA relay closer to the Batt+ slot so it will plug in

the other one is probally not required and was an option that wasnt added to your car
not sure what it does...someone might be familiar with it
although............it does look vaguely familiar to one in my 81....havent been behind the fusebox in a few years sorry

It is a lime green with white stripe wire and a brown wire with brown stripe.
After carefully looking over all the wiring in the dash I found a set on the turn signal stalk that are the same colors. I'm not sure if they're related or just coincidence, but I'm still not seeing where it plugs into.

Also, there 4 last wire that I can't find either. I had everything in the dash plugged up but these remained.

(In order from left to right)
-White 4 pin funky connector (not the hazard switch)
-Black with green stripe connector. Looks like it plugs into something (cigarette lighter probably)
    -very small ground connector
-black wire with blue stripe (this is probably the wire used to send the aftermarket radio power)

Let me know what you think

the green and brown is either the speaker connection or door switch, leaning more toward speakers.

the white 4 pin may have been for the defroster switch, not that the caddy would have it but I am not sure if VW back then used the same harness for both caddy and rabbit.

black and blue wire with spade terminal should go to hazard switch

small brown ground wire is for light on the switch

the funky 90 degree connector is for lighter
    Piss poor preparation promotes problems!!

    yes like that

your 4 pin, ground, and other wires
do they go to your defrost switch?

that doesnt look like a headlight switch connector...

the brown ground could go to the hazard lamp
the hazard switch has a bulb socket on it

Thanks everyone. That relay was really my main concern. Everything else will probably just be multimeter'd and anything that's not being used will just get capped off.

Only thing that is still bugging me is that green/white and brown/black wire. Yea, it could have been for speakers, but I doubt that. I won't really find out until everything's buttoned up and tested.

I am about 99% sure it is speakers. If you have the speakers in still, try taking a AA battery with some leads, positive to the green and negative to brown. You should hear the speaker click.

Other option is pull speaker grill off and check continuity with both ends using a meter.

Only problem is somewhere down the line an aftermarket system was hooked up. I'm going through and cleaning up all the previous crap- actually soldering and shrink wrapping instead of twisting them together and covering with electrical tape

Right now the pigtail in the back of the radio has wires going straight to the speakers instead of being integrated into the wire harness.

I appreciate your help and I believe that it was probably speakers.

speaker wires are not integrated into the dash harness from the factory. the factory speaker harness is separate. And you dont show it in any of your pics. The power harness for the factory radio IS in the dash harness and is only 3 wires. +12v, ground and dash illumination

the big plug is for the rear defroster which you dont have. the other wires are the supply and ground for the lighter.

You have the OXS system control unit relay in the correct place.

The other random open connectors (like the 2 pin one) are for things a truck doesnt have. I believe the 2 pin plug is for the rear window wiper.
