Thread: calling all Vag-Com vets...

  1. 10-06-2012 10:22 PM #1
Visited my buddy at the dealership to use a vagcom tool. Disabled my DRL's since I got my euroswitch, enabled the window control from key fob, and was hoping to enable the coming home light feature. We checked the coming home feature on the computer and everything seems like it is as it should be, but alas, no coming home lights. Is there any feature that my car doesn't include that it needs to have in order to be able to have the coming home feature? or can any mkv gti have this enabled? i'm confused

There is a number of threads on this forum that talk about coming home, leaving home. Did you try searching?

    You probably need RLS

I searched and thought vagcom adjustments were all that were needed. Well I guess ill google RLS now lol

I could check my settings, but it has been so long since I have messed with it... I wouldn't even know where to start. Simple questions first... you are leaving the lights in the on position when you leave the car right?
If you can afford to screw up twice, why can't you afford to do it right the first time?

Just for more information and input on this topic. RLS is not needed. "Coming home" is enabled on my 08 GTI without the RLS (wish it had RLS)

    RLS = Rain/Light Sensor

You do not have that, and I doubt that you would/could install one of these on your car (very complex procedures are involved).

Follow the search for the coming home modification without the RLS.

If you're still having this issue check your "Lights & Convenience" option in the MFD. It should have "Coming home" and "Leaving home". From there you can set the time your headlights will stay on. I don't have a sensor but this seemed to work. Hope this helps
    What do I put here?

Not True. Rain/Light Sensor is an easy install/upgrade.

Just to clarify again, Coming Home/Leaving Home don't have anything to do with any sensor, and also don't have to do with any setting on any switch (lights don't have to be on, or in the Auto position that's on some Euro switches).

When enabled, Coming Home is simply a timer that keeps the headlights lights on for about 30 sec after you shut the car off, to give you time to get inside your home.

Leaving Home turns the headlights on when you unlock the car, for security.

Either one or both can be enabled, either through VAG-COM/VCDS or through the convenience settings in your instrument cluster.

    I beg to differ.
The installation is way above the skills of the average VW owner. (this modification also calls for a new Windshield to accommodate the RLS)

Correct. The tech at vw said he did the vagcom needed settings necessary but somehow it's not working. And my cluster has no such control, not sure if its cuz it's an early model 2006 but there's no coming home option in the lighting menu
