Thread: Why did you choose your Passat over a Jetta?

All my wife's younger siblings are areas the age where they want to be included in everything we do, we need the extra room. It's huge.

I'm 6 foot and my wife packs a lot in the car just running to the store trips, and my newborn son requires more stuff than most kids. All of that was consisted of 3 larger checked bags, 4 small bags, baby bags, stroller and car seat was able to fit in car from the airport, in the rental. From that point I knew I had to get the Passat. Now I've preordered a 13 Q7 TDI S line, diesel for me is the way to go.

3 child seats. Passat is the smallest vehicle I'd consider for my family of 5. We effectively downsized from a minivan.

    Simple decision for me:

    TDI Jetta - Mexican engine
    TDI Passt - German engine

    Jetta:

Just passed 51k miles, powertrain warranty expires at 60k. At least this way it will be certified and the next owner will have an extended warranty.
    Worried about HPFP.
Not EXACTLY what I was looking for. If it wasn't EXACTLY perfect, It wasn't COMPLETELY perfect.
Kinda small when I visit my nephews who still need car seats.

    Passat:

No documented HPFP failures not related to gasoline
EXACTLY what I wanted. Completely happy.
Used to driving a suburban, so size is a non issue.

    Passat (twice)

I like the additional space and better finished interior. I also appreciate the very slightly superior TDI economy. The Passat represent VW best effort at "Americanizing." All of that said, I see a heck of a lot more Jettas than Passats on the road. It's good to see VW's expansion plans coming to fruition.
