I spend my life on 495 in Mass. My commute is from Durham NH to Wrentham MA every Mon and Fri. 230Miles round trip. All i can say is live as close as you can. And to the person who thinks NH drivers are worse than Mass drivers ya not even close.

mass sucks. too many rotaries, bad drivers, HORRID accents. i've never seen any other state that thinks sticking the front end of their car out into traffic is going to make me stop and let them out. i absolutely love that. plus when you dont move over a little bit they p*ss out and back up.
F mass. -and i'm from CT/NY.
and yes, i have family from there, in Marlborough...spent plenty of time in that state so my .02 is worth .02![]()

Then you want want to consider Arlington, Woburn, Winchester or Medford. All of those have town centers with independent restaurants, coffee shops, et al. The Fells in Medford/Winchester/Stoneham would provide pretty good hiking and mountain biking as well as the land locked forest in Burlington - which can only be accessed from Lexington. You're not going to find museums in any of those but there are plenty of local theater groups and maybe some art exhibits.

totally inappropriate of me, but if you're single (even if you're not, f it) and need someone to show you around shoot me a PM

Downtown Waltham definitely fits that description with something like 25 restaurants and bars, plus real estate is a lot more reasonable than some of the other surrounding towns. Also, it borders Lexington, so that's an upside for the commute.
I may be biased, just moved there myself.
