I'm about as big an S2000 fan as you'll find and I certainly can't argue with a C5 ZO6 for track duty. Great choice

Very nice purchase. I was in a similar situation as yourself. I ended up purchasing a boosted '03 s2k because I got a great deal on it from a family member. I really have the c5 itch right now though. Unfortunately, a Corvette wouldn't fit in my driveway in the city with the other car and I really wouldn't want to street park it. My plan is to hold on to the s for a few years until I am out of the city. Then unload it for (hopefully) a profit- if they continue to hold their value so well. White c5 z06... *drool*

    Very nice Subaru as well

Yes indeed but good luck finding one. I don't think I even saw any fs in my range. Red was my other choice if I could have been picky. There was a nicely prepped yellow Z for $23k owned by a driving instructor that would have made a great buy as well.

The C5 Corvettes are a great value. I drove a C5 Z06 (white, red interior) and it was amazing. I have thought a long time about moving up to a Corvette....kids get in the way!

Congrats on the purchase, and don't touch the red interior! Post more pics when yo get it cleaned up.

I always thought corvettes were for the old guys, but then I realized you could get a borderline supercar for 15K and was sold.

Anyways I came to congratulate a fellow corvette owner, and now leaving really considering selling my fj and getting a forester XT.

I wish my old black C5 had the red/black interior I love it.

If you're going to buy new tires and track it, you should buy another 2 rear wheels and run the same wheel and tire at all 4 corners. There's a great deal on Corvette forum for OEM speedlines.

Same size wheels are ok, but the problem with with running same size tires is that it messes with the active handling and traction control. I could care less about those in the track environment, but definitely don't want to have them throwing codes in the street.

I've seen other people do this but wondered about how it changes things. I understand going with narrower rear wheels takes grip away from the front and will make it more neutral (or tend to oversteer) in corners but if you currently go around a corner at 60 mph and the fronts start to lose grip and the rears don't, once you make the rears narrower, at 60 mph the fronts will still start to lose grip and now the rears will also? I don't see it changing lap times much if any but may make it more fun to drive.

Also, what says all 4 tires should be the same and not have the rears still a little wider (or narrower but probably not on a RWD car) if it has extreme understeer?

    Just a general question.

It's not the wheel diameter or tire width that messes with the Active Handling, it's the difference in overall tire height that causes issues.

That being said, we've run our race cars with up to 3/4 inch delta in overall tire height without active handling issues.

The problem with running a square tire setup on the C5/C6 for track use is that ultimately you're not running as much grip in the rear as you possibly could. The front fender wells are smaller than the rears on the C6, so even if you maxed out the available fender space in the front with a square setup you would still be giving up possible mechanical grip in the rear.

Assuming the same tire compound the guy with the more tire to the ground generally wins with these cars. You can definitely influence balance of the car by removing tire grip from one end or the another, but you're also limiting your ability to effectively put power down on corner exit. Grip at corner exit is key for these cars given the big available torque and the way that most new drivers drive.

    Long story short:

2 wide fronts and 2 really wide rears > 4 wide square wheels > 2 "narrow" fronts and 2 wide rears.

A much more predictable and precise way to influence the balance of the car would be through bar, damper or spring tuning... trying to tune balance with tires can be tricky given how relatively fickle they are compared to other mechanical means.

    Congrats on the purchase.

You lean your head a lot into turns.

And I don`t know how you have the visor down, drives me nuts.
