Is it a genuine Ross Tech cable? If so, download their newest version for your cable, it will have the appropriate drivers for windows 7 and automatically install when the computer sees the cable is plugged in.

Hey guys, I have vagcom on my computer but I downloaded a copy of windows 7 32bit a few years ago and now it doesn't work. Something about the connection to the cable. If someone could take a look at it and try to get it set up right I'd really appreciate it. I'll buy you beer or give you money.

I had a similar issue when I updated recently. When you install Vag Com make sure to select "special usb drivers" that seemed to help me out.
I am using windows XP on a boot camp installation so its a little different.
