It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Get under the car and look up.
The manual transmissions usually leak from:
Axle cups.
Front Seal.
Push rod seal.
Rear tin cover.
Speedometer Cable seal.
Usually the leaks if not really bad will not drip as most of the leaks drip or leak on moving components and get sprayed on the underbelly.

GM Synchromesh seemed to be the concensus when I was looking to do mine. I am still dripping, need to look at my speedo cable gasket again. Sorry to threadjack, but does anyone use sealant on that seal?

No, the gasket is cheap and effective.

Many people like synchromesh-type fluids, even though they are a bit thinner than spec'd for our transmissions.
I use Honda MTF II. Try, you'll like it. The one catch with it is a shorter OCI. I change the fluid every three oil changes or ~21k miles.

wheel bearings sound like grinding rocks at warp speed
transmission bearings sound like whining (differential)
the bolt is M7x 1.25
transmissions leak, even after you replace all the seals
while everyone recommends Synchromesh...i tried it once
drained it out a week later and dumped the oil
went back to 75w90....
Synchromesh is too light, it leaks more, and whines more
if you have failing synchro rings it will help aid shifting (band-aid)
if you have failing input/output/differential bearings only things to fix that is replace the bearings inside the trans

Is there a significant difference in thickness/leaks between the two?
I'm tempted to try a different oil. I have no strange sounds from my transmission, but no idea how much i have leaked out, so might drain and re-fill when I investigate.
GermanAutoParts.com, I found my email receipt but can't find it on their site anymore, bolt from Lowes!

I just put in a new speedo cable two days ago and couldn't get it to seat properly with the gasket... I wasn't getting any speed readings at all. Without the gasket it seated just fine and I could finally tell how fast I was going. As long as I pay attention to fluids that shouldn't be a problem, right? It seemed like the metal cup of the cable was pressure fit into the hole in the transmission, quite perfectly.

Might have solved it (the speedo gasket bolt)
N0901733 is original part number, called a local dealer said no-one around has one
It has been replaced by
N90009201 (Bolt)
N0122345 (Washer)
Spec is M7x1.25x13mm
I'm going to try to order one but I have the feeling I need one a little longer as I think the first few threads have gone in my tranny.

how about a helicoil kit and be done with it? Anyone have experience with these?
Can get M8x1.25 bolts everywhere

I called my local fastenal yesterday and no luck from them. I'm going to have a good look at the position of the hole tonight and decide if there's a way I can drill with surgical precision and seal the area up while i'm doing it.
The drip I have is annoying as hell, I can't park my car outside because it fouls up the paving. Gonna have to drain and fill the tranny again too. I'll probably switch to some 75w90 if it is less prone to leaking. Haven't been driving my cabby much, I want this solved once and for all![]()
