Thread: Its that time in my car's life again, TIMING BELT TIME!!! Where to go?

  1. 10-08-2012 01:58 AM #1
So i really wanna change my timing belt in my 1.8t, she's approaching 180 000 km's. No clue when it was changed by the last owner. I bought it last jan at 154 000. I rather do it soon to play it safe. What are some good reputable shops where i can bring it? I wanna shop around. I'm thinking SEM or Precision tuning. are there any other shops you can recommend in the GTA? Cheaper the better, but to an extent. This is obviously something i don't wanna cheap out on!

    thanks!

A dealership? Lol I work at Pickering VW and in the past couple weeks we've had two cars come in that had recently had their timing belts replaced at other shops... Both have blown engines.

It's also recommended that you have the water pump changed at the same time. Dealerships may charge more, but it's because we do it right the first time.

Either that or yes, Steve knows what he's doing, I can vouch for him.
    Doing it right is overrated.

How about dealership know-how at tuning shop rates. Lakhi at ESS is also a tech at Queensway VW up the road.
