Drug tested

Okay so I have been with my company for over a year now and on Thursday last week I was sent for a UT and I know I am going to fail it for THC. (so what I like to enjoy a joint every now and then). My question is would it be better to quit before the results come back or wait it out and see what they say. Our company has no tolerance for this so I know the out come is terminated. I am more concerned about it effecting future jobs.

So, you knew you could be drug tested for your job and you smoked anyways? What a dumbass. Just let the results come in, they'll find out that you had THC in your system anyways when the test comes back whether you quit or not. It doesn't sound like you'll be able to use the company as a reference anyways, quitting after a drug screen in pretty obvious behavior.

Who knows, you could get lucky and the test could come out negative. Most of those tests are biased towards giving false negatives instead of false positives, becuase a false positive means a lawsuit.

What I find funny is the stupid pot head worked there for a year, knew the policy, and still smokes weed. God, I hate pot heads. If you're going to do drugs, at least do something worth doing, like coke.

Zero tolerance can be applied with decent reasoning to virtually all employment situations, and I don't think it is fair to say that doing so "treats an employee like ****".

Different discussion for a different time. For the OP I recommend the following:

Quit Job.
Stop Smoking Pot.
Find a New job.
Continue to not smoke.
Enjoy the relaxation that will come with not worrying if you are going to be sent in for a drug test.

Totally separate from what your opinion on the matter is and what "should" be legal...use and possession of MJ is not legal in the US. Once you get that thru your head, you might make better decisions when it comes to your recreational activities.

Either way, you're unlikely to collect unemployment; at least this way you can look for another job...one that doesn't drug test.

The reality is--depending on where you are in the US, a lot of people smoke pot.

It's no coincidence that most employers here in non-blue collar occupations don't drug test. I used to work for a major hospital system--guess what? No drug testing. You couldn't; a good deal of the workforce would be let go if everyone suddenly put a zero tolerance drug testing policy in place that included marajuana. (We also have an initiative on the ballot to legalize it here.)

Where the OP was stupid was to smoke when he knew he works for a company that employs random testing and has a zero tolerance policy. That suggests to me someone that likes their pot more than they like their job.

95% of the folks i know who work in a finance related field (both large and small corporations) as well... i think it is a pre-req due to the stress.

You know thc is out of your system in a month (if you smoked all day errrr day prior) and is out in as little as 3-5 days if you only smoke occasionally right? Maybe a little research would be good next time lol
