Thread: ID these vehicles - hippie commune edition

  1. 10-08-2012 07:37 AM #1
Norcal - so the story goes...
This used to be some sort of hippie commune. There was trash and cars all over the place. The guy who bought it was clearing everything out - the cars and trucks could be had for $100 each.

Most are easy, some not so much...
TCL, I challenge you to name all vehicles, down to model, year and trim.

I'd buy a bunch of those for $100 each and start my own commune.

I'd give $100.00 for that Single Cab VW so fast the bills would catch fire.

Oh, it's impossible to pin down, but it's between a '68 and '71.

Actually, I'd take any of the 3 trucks. All look good/cool to me! I do have a bunch of parts/knowledge for the VW, though.

Yep, I'd buy a handful of those. I see #3 and 5 are split windows, #6 is a 5 window truck..and the single cab of course. Damn, if I could have any one of those for $100 it'd be my lucky day.

Don't we see rusted heaps turning up at thesamba.com and then going for real money? I'd say that's a better bet -- nobody on TCL buys things anyway.

How is it that the single cab has a perfect top, and the rest look like they've been sitting outdoors since 1967?

    x2.

There were a few hippies around here, so there's a few bugs, buses, and pickups left. My dad had 11 at once. My dad had 4 or 5 Wagoneers too.

I get it... you watch a lot of Top Gear and would drive a manual with a broken left leg. You still sound dumb.

Even that wont satisfy TCL (I was being sarcastic, I think anything I dont see commonly to be rare)

This picture is old news... The bay window single cab is what the people who found all these were driving.

I think #6 as well as #12 are circa late 40's/early 50's Dodges. Also, I wonder if this is the place near Manchester. There were a bunch of VW's on our craigslist and Chattanooga's from this property (if it's the same).

1: Too hard to make out, but maybe a GM G-Body?
2: Jeep Wagoneer, mid to late 70's
3: Early 70's Type 2 Bus (I'll let the aircooled guys get this one)
4: Some kind of 50's school bus
5: A split window Bus, again I leave this one to the aircooled folks.
    6: Dodge Truck
    7: Bug, early 60's?
    8: Horse trailer
    9: Baha Bug
    10: Bug, mid 60's?
    11: Same
    12: Dodge Truck
    13: Dunno
    14: ???
    15: Mid 50's Suburban?
    16: Type 2 pickup
    17: '72 or '73 Mercury wagon?
    18: Chevy/GMC Van
19: Mid 70's Dart or Valiant
20: Mid 50's International Pickup, 4WD, but could be on a newer chassis

I think #7 is a '64, as it looks like a smaller back window (pre '65) and if that paint is an indicator of the license light, it's a bigger style that started in '64.

#9, The Baja, is older than a '71, as that was the first year for the crescent shaped vents behind the rear quarter windows. The rear tires are perpendicular to the ground, so I can't tell if it's a swing-axle or not.

#10 looks like a fat post and it looks like it has the smaller "peanut" style turn signals on the tops of the front fenders. If so, it's between a '58 and '63.

#11 has big windows but the taillights stopped being used in '67, so it's narrowed down to a '65-'67.
