How much $$ do you have in the car already?

Also like willb6, I'm thinking of modding my passat, but I really don't know if it's worth the trouble. The previous owner was a dick to the car. I mean, the poor thing looked like it didn't even get a proper cleaning.
The cam shaft went to **** (for those who recognize my name, I still have the car, even after all that trouble); guy barely took his car in for oil changes according to the VW mechanic. The brakes feel bad: they make an odd noise when I'm already at a full stop and slowly let go and break again. Not to mention the cosmetic damage that I got the car in.
Original paint, painted over with some pearlescent black crap. Passenger fender had a huge dent. Some nicks around the car itself. Stupid signs like "turbo" on the back and a skull on the gas cap?!
Phew, that was good. I let it all out.
Anyway, is it worth it? I seriously considered getting the Forge WINtake at one point as a start (along with the already upgraded AWE diverter valve. I know, I know, I should get a unitronic diverter valve for high performance).
So yeah, there's my dilemma v-dubbers.
Oh yeah, and (again, if you recognize my name, then this isn't news to you) I got into a car accident a few months ago. I need a new chrome trim for the driver side in the rear and my bumper needs to go to a body shop for a quick sand and shine. That's $$$.

As previously stated in other thread......YES. It'd be like an oyster producing a pearl. We all have to start somewhere. Are you tiptronic trans? If so, ill cut you a deal on my Neuspeed intake. FYI...Uni does not make DV's. the AWE or Forge units are the best. With regular maintenance, you will have no worries.
1. Change oil.
2. Flush brakes.
3. If applicable, flush tranny fluid.
4. Clean intake valves.
5. New plugs and coilpacks.
Youre all set.

In general.. you WILL NOT get your money back when you mod.. so understand that. You are doing this for fun... so.
I would do basics first.. all fluids, spark plugs, air filter.. blah blah .. all the saftey stuff first. While your doing this.. research what you want from the car.. do you want air bags, coils, normal suspension.. doyou want a "body kit" .. do you want wheels.. it will add up fast.. and you may get hooked.
If your paying people to do this.. your going to be spending alot of money and time.. while the car is being serviced.
You may also have to do a timing belt/water pump.. which is about 1400 per the nice table at my local dealership.

Depending on how much you care about the things you mentioned, you might want to take care of those things first in addition to what others mentioned.
I love my car but little things that aren't fixed drive insane, so if it were me I'd have to fix that stuff first.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I might just end up doing small things to it here and there and the most I'll do performance wise will be a new air intake and diverter valve.
Any suggestions for the little things? Like what brands I should get, for instance?
I already know that one of the things that I'm going to have to do is clean the carbon buildup in the engine....:shudders: That's going to be a FUN day.

No don't mod your passat!!
Just kidding:
First if you already have the AWE DV that is perfect you dont need to change your DV again.
As for performance mods, first id recommend a Tune
then downpipe, intake, motor/tranny mounts (bc the stock ones are probably shot), suspension work, Rear Sway bar, ect
But before all that makes sure all your basics are good to go, timing belt ha been changed, brakes are working properly, oil is looking good, your cam follower is happy ect.
Give us a little more info on where your car is at, any and all mods, what has been fixed or changed and how many miles ago. how many miles are on the car?

I think I'll look more into it once I get the basics dealt with. Tires, spark plugs, etc. Also, from what I've been seeing, unitronic is the way to go![]()

Oh, right. Only mod is an iPhone dock haha, which is geared towards comfort and not performance.
It is a 2008 Passat 2.0T FSI Engine BPY 4 Cylinder.
