I know that the Sportback's won't be shown right away.
Not worried about the Sedan at all. Good for Audi trying to make the A3 sell that much more in the USA. With that said, I still hope they won't leave out the Sportback later on.![]()

I think what is likely to happen is that Audi will flesh out the A3/MQB line with some new designs and configurations.... building off of the convenience and flexibility of the sportback- but in a different configuration- an updating. I've written about this before-
that the MQB platform offers multiple design solutions. And the marketplace is always looking for the new.
To me one of the things that argues for the sportback to be offered in the the U.S. is if someone can make a compelling financial case for the consumer viability of what now is a heritage iconic design- basically a classic hatch type of roofline.
More likely I think is that something like a sport-tourer will be coming. The impetus for Audi to compete and match upcoming models from BMW and Mercedes is almost irresistible and the argument for bringing the sportback to the US begins to diminish when it will be competing against new models/new design solutions that feature a different approach to the compact segment.
Bottomline- I'd say chances are 50-50; and if the sportback does go on sale here - snap it up.
