Edmunds put their long-term Turbo Beetle DSG through their track test. I'm not sure what to make of their acceleration numbers; they're a fair bit slower than what C&D managed, and Edmunds has two sets of numbers, even though they state later on that TC is non-defeatable. So I don't know what's going on there.

    Excerpt:

Slalom: Initial turn-in is a little lazy, but it takes a set well and even transitions nicely. Nondefeat ESC means it requires ultra-smooth, singular input or else the ESC intervenes with extreme prejudice with drastic and prolonged brake application. Besides not being able to shut it down, the system seems overly conservative and crudely tuned given that this is the sportiest Beetle.

Agreed, that's why I'm ordering the button to disable it from usp.

Yeah, I'm thinking about that button kit too.... good for getting out of the driveway in the winter, not to mention hooning it a bit.

Someone else commented on the Inside Line blog that they think the "TC disabled" numbers are w/ the transmission in Sport mode, and the "TC enabled" numbers are w/ the transmission in normal mode. Which would make sense, just isn't very clear in the article.

I can't stand automatic transmissions, every time I drive one I'm yelling at the car telling it to change gears, or not to change gears lol.

I'll probably just hide it in the glove box somewhere, or maybe in the cubby under the headlight switch. Who knows, doesn't really matter where it goes.

I spoke with the Volkswagen engineer about this modification on my 2.5 and he thinks that because I have the basic MFI and not the upgraded version in the Turbo it won't work. Anyone out there do this to a 2.5 yet and well... does it work?

You should be fine. I thought I heard 2.5 guys putting them on there Jetta's, but not 100%. Time will only tell. I have a 2.0T with a basic and I am probably not the only one.
