I was just driving home and lost 4th gear in my auto jetta. I was just looking at another jetta that someone is selling for $300 for parts and I wanted it for the windshield. Should I get it a switch the manual transmission for my auto or just get my auto looked at?

$300 for a parts car is a good price if it has the parts you need. You can sell the leftover parts for more than you paid for the whole car and be money ahead.

fFxing your auto tranny would cost alot more than that. Just be aware that you will need to spend another $250-$300 for a new clutch and related parts to go with the transmission and shift linkage parts you salvage from the donor car.

Forget trying to salvage the windshield, it's glued in and you'll break it trying to get it out. Around here you can get a brand new windshield installed for less than $150.

Dont bother doing anything with that auto tranny it will just fail again.

The parts car would be a great thing to have if your going to switch to manual youll have everything you need to get the job done. But will probably want a new clutch and obviously the hardware that goes with that.
