Don't know if the Del Sol is a good choice unless you can find a B16A3/A2 variant, and those are damn rare.

Yes, it has to be FWD Convertible. That was the purpose of the discussion.

Miatas and S2ks are open roof because that sort of car is open roof, and it is a large part of the appeal. There's a reason why the designers of both started with an open car and went from there. If all the other reasons were primary, then they would have started with a car like the BRZ. But being an open, traditional sports car was primary. Not an interesting byproduct.
I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

Dont worry. Most buyers have as well. Youre not alone.

It was central to the design, which is why those cars (and the Elan) generally "work" as sports cars. That's kind of my point. As much as I'd like a Miata GT or S2000 GT, they're still ultra-precise handlers, despite the inherent disadvantage of not having a stiff roof - because they were designed without it.

To make the Capri, on the other hand, someone had to take the Mazda 323, and then add a bunch of bracing to get it sort of rigid again, and whatever suspension precision it had was lost in translation. Meanwhile it got heavier, too. The older 323 it's based on is a blast to drive - the Capri less so.

Pretty sure in terms of outright performance the Mini S 'vert would wipe the floor with the rest of them.

Either I skimmed this too fast or you guys are slacking hard. Honda del sol? B16 motor, 160 hp, no torque at all. Real screamer engine. Should be tons of fun.

As much as I dislike most VWs, this is probably the closest thing we currently have...

Bitch basket implies a roll bar.
