Thread: Winter Project

  1. 10-09-2012 07:51 PM #1
I'm currently searching the local CLs for older tandem cruisers for something to clean up as a surprise for the mrs. this spring.

Anyone have an suggestions as far as good models to be on the look out for?

    Thanks

    In the JSW

Plans are to clean all surface rust/ putting with aluminum foil an vinegar.

As well a few leather bits to match the saddle (grips/ mudflaps)

Only repainting will be touch ups to the green and a sand and paint job of the white on the rear fender.

    Coming together...

As she sits now, have to tighten up a few things still.

To be completed she will be receiving a new Brooks saddle (the original B.66 is in the bottom right corner), new brake cables, a new shift cable, and a new chain.

I had never changed a tube prior to this project and so far I'm very pleased and plan to do the tandem after this is completed.

    (Brakes not fully installed)

And my favorite part of this bike:

    The heron front crank.

    Thanks

Got a few more parts coming in the mail to finish things off:

    New Sturmey-Archer Shift Cable Assembly

    New Chain

and a Honey Brooks B.17 Saddle

Has to be completed by this Thursday for the Mrs.' birthday.

Was going to do new brake cables but i think a good cleaning should suffice.

    Proper update soonish?

    Thanks!

She'll be in for a tune up in the Spring to insure it's in proper shape as I am a very green bike "mechanic".

Everything seems properly assembled, I was just sort of kidding about the brake pads, because in the picture they appear to be aligned with the sidewall of the tire, rather than the rim. But I know it's just an early assembly pic.
