Thread: My 89 Cabby

  1. 10-09-2012 10:20 PM #1
So I'm new to the VW crowd, but I just picked this car up and have some plans for it. Since I live in Ohio, I think air is the way to go. I have had plenty of static slammed hondas and Ohio kills them lol. Deep wheels, graffiti, and interior work. No performance mods planned. I have an SRT for that. Lol. I do have some questions though since I'm new to thes things. This one has yellow high beams which I haven't seen yet trolling this site. Is this a normal option? Also today 1st gear disappeared. Third is where first should be. It vibrates like crazy at lower rpm since this started. Any ideas?

Take an hour or so and peruse the pages at www.cabby-info.com for all you ever wanted to know about your new car.

Having said that, this should be the fix for the missing first gear...

Second item on page for stock rebuild...Fourth for performance upgrade.

The yellow lights were an owner installed item.

    Welcome to the group!

Thanks for the info. I'll have to order that rebuild kit. The yellow lights, any idea where to get a replacement? One is cracked.

    Cajun,

You're normally spot on, but seeing as how he stated crazy vibrations came with his maligned shifter, I'm going to blame AT LEAST the rear xmsn mount.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

good suggestions so far, this forum is nearly 100% spot on, and a huge help. Great props to all those on here as they have saved me more than once.

As for lights, you can find them at Black Forest Industries, GAP, ESC or other VW part sites, these are just a few that come to mind. I think they are the 5.25 or 5.5 size. Someone will correct me on this.

Check out Missing Link for a full rebuild and short shift kit for your car. Got mine there and love it, great kit, I just need to tweak it a little.

Total awesome advice and I agree with you....I'm always open to correction and additions!
    I know a lot..but don't know everything.

Hey..check all your motor mounts too, especially the one on the back side that connects the tranny to the body of the car!

It does need motor mounts for sure. I think it might be the rear mount on the shifter rods. While in gear, I can move the shifter everywhere. Like pretty much the whole motion off the shifter. This leads me to believe that the shifter s absolutely needs rebuilt.
