Thread: Made Capt!

  1. 10-10-2012 02:43 AM #1
Well, I finished my upgrade training and flew my first 5 day trip as a captain. It was a successful 5 days with only one issue on the last day (mechanical.. both primary and back up pitch trim systems failed). Good stuff. Even though I've been flying this plane for a while and have amassed about 600 hours in it, I still felt super awkward as a captain vs. first officer. Just the idea that your certificate is now on the line makes things a bit more 'real'.

Wish I was there. Taking a bit of a different route to get ahead over the next year, though...

Congrats. There are a lot of former Eagle guys there hopefully you'll get to fly with them.

Awesome, Greg. Very very cool. Every time I see one of those red-and-white jets I look to see who's flying. Congrats.

Remember, Greg. Now, when you get in the cockpit, the 1st words you say need to be,
"You can call me 'Sir', or you can call me 'Aircraft Commander.'"
That's how I start all my flights, and the F/Os really love me.

Oh, I've got my preflight brief all worked out already:

"What's your name? Oh, nevermind.. it doesn't matter. You can call me SIR and if you don't call me SIR, you can call crew scheduling to find me an FO that will refer to me as SIR. I expect you to sit over there and keep to yourself unless I ask you a question..and that's not going to happen. Don't plan on flying during any of our time together, either. I expect my coffee black and my women white, you'll do the preflight, lav inspection and cleaning and do the walk around when it's cold, wet or otherwise uncomfortable. You'll need to anticipate any charts that I might wish to look at. You aren't allowed to speak with our flight attendants unless directly spoken to. And finally, if you touch anything in this flight deck, you'll find yourself in a free fall from FL360 without a chute. Now that we've covered the bases, do you have anything to add? No? I didn't think so. Lets go have a great flight!'

(kidding.. totally kidding. Comes from all the 121 classes about CRM I've sat through!)

Hah! Was that really how he was? I've seen so many CRM videos about douches like this but I really didn't think they existed.

Ya man... 'Rams horn' style yoke. The only time it's awkward is when you're trying to land in a crosswind, you can't get enough leverage on it to put in a proper x-wind control.

I work for a great company called Jetsuite! They've been good to me and it's about to get even better. They announced the acquisition of 15 CJ3s and they're opening a new PBI base, which is what I bid for and got. One more month on the Phenom!

Ill be talking with you alot in the air if you get PBI. I transfer down there as ATC from CHS next week. when is it supposed to open?

As has already been said, Congratulations.

Just remember to stick your head out the window and yell "Tally Ho!!! Chocks away!" every once in awhile.
