Has anyone fully removed the trunk latch from their Sedan?

I'm talking about group #10 on this schematic:

    http://bit.ly/Qh6PqR

Now that I'm moved and have +/- a month before the kid arrives, I wanted to tackle a small project. I really am tired of looking at the chromed trunk latch and the sun-beaten black background. I have samples of 3M DiNoc and I have cut out some to insert inside the "VW" but it just doesn't do it for me. I would rather just remove the chrome VW and make it one plain black (or colormatched) space.

So just wondering who has removed the latch assembly, what they ran into, any sorts of possible issues.

    gracias

that would require you having it shaved and color matched. there is no other way to do it. and as far as having a manual latch, well that would get deleted. a lot of the mk5 guys have done with

No, I said removing the chrome VW logo. Take a look at the schematic in my post, it is removable. Once that is removed I could cover the faded black back with some vinyl, black it out, or something...

More wondering who has done this before and what was involved.

I'm in the same boat, as I need to refresh the black also. I bought the vinyl inserts, but wasn't happy with them, as you could still see gaps.

Here's a post from awhile back showing the removal of the emblem.

Thanks, that helps get a better idea of the emblem itself. Now to just pop off the trunk liner and pull out the assembly. Rather have a nice work area if I decide to vinyl the back and cut all of those holes for the emblem...

    small project... FFS
