10 years ago I bought my 1958 Beetle from Lucille Volk of Panama City FL. William Volk had passed away and left four VW's in his passing. I bought the 58, I believe Everett from the Samba bought the squareback and the ghia and Manx went to family.

Though the years have passed since I bought the beetle, I still love to look at my title and see "Previous Title Date, 5/19/1958"! It's odd to find true original owner beetles these days.

So the other night for some reason I googled William E. Volk from Panama City and I found his obituary. I stumbled across the name of his daughter and found she was an attorney in a city not to far from me now! I knew immediately that I had to call.

So today I talked to her secretary for about 30 seconds who realized I was a genuine person and she put me through. The next 15 minutes was the best time I've had on the phone in years. Victoria told me stories about why the paint job came to be, about the two dents, that she learned to drive in that car!

The most interesting fact she remembered is that in 1958 they drove to a port to pick it up. She was 6 at the time and remembers going to the boat to pick it up. Mrs. Volk had told me the car was ordered in Tallahassee as Panama City didn't have a VW dealership at the time. I just wonder where she went?

I did not ask for pictures of the car...yet. I plan to send her current photos of the beetle and perhaps even drive the car up to her if she likes. I'm hoping that I can learn more history of my 58 and with any luck...obtain early photos of it!

Victoria was excited I had called and I'm glad she welcomed the call. Mrs. Volk is still alive at 91 but her memory is fading. I just hope one day when I sell the car to the third owner I will be able to share in detail it's entire life.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Jason
