Cruising around ebay I noticed that the GTs have really come down recently. If I was in the market for a newer e class coupe, or 6 series it would be hard not to take a look at a GT.
500+ hp leather everything seems like a pretty nice car for blasting down deserted highways.
I'm still young enough that I would probably be putting the money towards a more performance oriented car, but I have always had a soft spot for these cars. They seem to get fresher with age to me.
Wonder how low they will go in price now that the update is out.
This specific bentley is on ebay for $61,000 21,000 miles
If I had to spend 65k on a used luxo/performance GT car, I'd probably go with a Mercedes CL63 over the Conti GT, you'll get a much newer car for the same money.
I really dislike these cars. As said before, an older V8 Vantage falls in that range. For a bit more you could get a 997.2 C2S, 997.1 Turbo, or best of all 997.1 GT3.
Never really cared for the Bently GT. It's a confused car IMO. It has lots of power but don't handle all that well, it's not that big, but weights like full size SUV, it's a a luxury GT, but it's pretty cramped inside. For the money new or used there are better cars out there.
The flying spur would be easier to own as a practical driver but the cgt would aesthetically fit the hooliganism and loud noises that would come with my ownership better.
This is what I'm talking about. Not that second one though. I'm not buying an f-car from a buy here-pay here lot.
There are apparently not that bad to own. Doesn't have nearly the maintenance requirements or the insane hours for service that a mid engined has.
This all day, every day over a VW Phaeton coupe with a turbo kit.
My mk4 R32 is stable enough at 150+ mph, but compared to the D1 platform there is no comparison or confusion to which car was specifically designed to cruise at very high speeds.
A Porsche may indeed be more fun on a back road, but might as well get a Miata for that.
These things are so underrated, and more functional, classy, and sexy than the Bentley. But that's just my opinion. It's not a Porsche, but damn can these things haul, and are very reliable.
Looking around it seems that with just a chip you will be in the 6-650 HP area.
Personally if I was going for luxury speed I want to go all the way. I would prefer to drive a couch on wheels with a afterburner for an engine. Piling all sorts of heavy luxury features into a car with sporting intentions always seemed counter intuitive.
I don't need to set a lap time on my drive to work, so driving a super stiff sports car would get old. A Ferrari is not a every day car.
65k would also buy a e55 and a Elise for the best of both worlds.
While I'd want an Aston DB9 before a Bentley CGT, I'd have no problems dailying a CGT, either, before I'd move down to a MB or BMW or Audi. Make mine a deep green with dark tan interior:
I really like the modern big Karmann Ghia styling. And I prefer the coupe to the sedan by a wide margin.
I agree with alot of being said. The bentley is way to flash for me. If I was to spend 65k on a car I would prob look into a audi first. I see alot of nice used RS4's along with TTS's and I even found a used TTRS. I also would love to be in a cayman R and like a few people said one of my dream cars a AMG C63 all could be had for under the 65k benchmark.
Compared to a D1 platform car, especially a W12 twin turbo.. a mustang IS a cheap civic.
I'm sure I'll get the typical retort of "it is lighter, faster around a track, for the money, etc" but they are not even close to the same level of car.
I love the GT and would pick one up if I had the extra cash, $65k is a good price. Here's one we did a few years ago with a previous company I was with.
After we were done it put down 512WHP/738WTQ (691BHP/996 ft-lbs of torque to the crank) VS 412WHP/445WTQ from the factory. These mods can be done relatively cheap (exhaust & tune) as well and you have a monster of a daily/weekend car.
I love big comfy coupes so I'd definitely look at one if I was considering a newish CL550 or 6-series.
