Do in my buddy's 20 th where the seats say recaro one is stitched in silver and one is gold (dark brown)![]()

it's been a few years since I've owned my 20th, but if I remember corectly, 20th's have red and GLI's have silver. Or maybe that was the other way around. Either way, I think thats it, you have one seat from one car and one seat from the other.

It's not the sun. The sun can not make them fade darker? And it's not out of a gli because it says gti on it

Obviously a previous owner had either the seat or the seat cover replaced, Due to the airbags blowing the seat apart or maybe burnt a hole...and the replacement one is diff color.
Common sense is pretty hard to come across these days.
Or you can go on thinking its some crazy mystery.

Well considering he wasn't the first person to own it we don't know if its been replaced. There always has to be that douche bag trying to start ****

I have the same thing with my 20th, must have been replaced, but I cant understand why they would make a replacement seat cover with a diff color stitching knowing that this is the only car with those seat covers. I just live with it, cause its a function>form thing.

mines the same way... im gonna guess maybe they stitched the 2 colors to help match the colors of the cars and then got them messed up at the factory putting them in the cars but who knows.

Mine was the same.
IT is the SUN that has caused the colour change to the darker folder brown. It is a reaction of the dye/chemicals in the stitching and prolonged UV exposure.
This isn't my first 20th, in fact, this one is mine for the second time. The Driver's seat cover was replaced and like yours is silver on the drivers side.
The GTi had also faded to a pink on the passenger's seat.
I went to Staples, picked up some permanent markers and fixed the passengers seat. One red marker, and one silver or metallic marker. Did the same thing with one of my MK2's years ago as well.
Problem solved.

Its actually not faded and its a very common thing for the stitching to be mismatched for some reason. There was a thread about this a while back. I remember reading it because my car is the same way. Its not sun faded though. My car is gold driver an silver passenger, and there are lots of people who have it reversed.
Nobody really has a good answer as to why this is but its something that makes the car even more unique I guess. Best guess I have is that maybe they were going to do different color stitching based on the paint color (Gold- Imola Yellow, Silver- Jazz Blue, Black- BMP) but then scrapped the idea or something and just threw the different color stitching in whatever car?? I would be willing to trade one of my seats so that the stitching matches though... Looks better IMO

mine has the gold stitching on the drivers and the silver on the pass.

Well we still have no conclusion but I'm pretty sure it's just a manufacture error. Not sweat or the sun
