Help a brotha out! Been almost 2 years since I removed the old bushings from
My upper trans mount and the passenger side motor mount and in all honesty I forgot how the bushings are oriented in the brackets.. I brought them with me to work today as we have a press here but I don't have my Bentley.. Can someone help me out real quick?

the pic above is wrong (passenger side)
you want the hole at the bottom so it raises the motor up because the weight wants to pull it down

The bushings have an arrow or some sort of arrow-like pointer molded into the rubber on each end. The arrow should point straight up when once the mount is installed. If the mounts are already out of the car, you might need to temporarily put them back in so that you can mark which way is UP, then just align the arrow with the mount and press them in.

Your Bentley manual illustrates exactly how to do this as well....

Mine didn't have any arrows. Just press it in so the metal sleeve is more towards the bottom. Plenty of threads on this.

Here is a pic of the larger mount, heavy duty 75mm V-block style that VW dealers and Techtonics sell:

Note the separation slit is on the bottom (toward the ground).

Think of the thru bolt as part of the car frame. It does not move.

The weight of the engine is on the outer metal ring. The rubber deforms as the weight of the engine pushes downward from the ring, and the separation slit opens.

The bolt hole is offset to compensate for the deformation, so it will end up actually being centered in the mount.

I didn't even think about it. It figures that my project Cabrio would also have that wrong.
