Bonus points if you have a picture of yourself in the car.

My dad was 34 on this date in 1984. I was pickin my nose as a 7 year old in the backseat of a 1982 Honda Accord and a 1974 AMC Hornet.

Google images: Like this but brown

Google images: pretty much just like this

I have a feeling you're going to get a whole lot of people who weren't born yet in this thread. I'm 31, and even then I was still just a figment of my parent's imagination when my dad was this age.

Ok after some rough math when dad was my age we were cruising around in either this:

    Or this:

That's me at the back looking like a goof
CSH, the red sedan was the last 6 seat Ford Falcon built before the major refresh. Amusingly it was actually built AFTER the new model production had started and only days before the new model was actually officially released. The reason was as it was a 6 seat sedan it was a special order and for some strange reason Ford decided to send it down the line mixed in with the new model.

x2, I'm pretty sure he wasn't even thinking about me at that age but, dad would have been driving a sixty-something impala SS. He crashed it when he was 19

  6. 10-12-2012 07:35 AM #6
My dad was just getting out of the air cooled beetle phase then(they were getting harder to find with no rust then).
I think we would have been on our first Mk1 Rabbit. Probably around a 1976 or 77

Dad had a '83 Ford Ranger 5 speed lifted 6" on 35" tires.
Extended cab with the 2 jumpseats.
I would "learn to drive" it later, I was 12, he was hammered, we were on the point in Cape Hatteras

Not this exact one, but this is very close, his was green:

    Mom had a volare wagon

Which died on the road with my brother and I in it at ages 2 and 5, so we got a used Aerostar

The short one, not the longer somehow uglier one

Nearly all of them died at inappropriate times, usually not too long after they were built!

If I recall correctly, my dad had this at the time: 1983 BMW 320i.

It looked almost exactly like this one:

B1 Passat (aka Dasher) brought back from Germany by an army Sargent. Sadly no pictures but I can blame my VW addiction on it.

    Same here.

My dad was either driving an AMC Javelin, or a late 60's Mustang V6. Not sure which at this point in his life.

The Javelin was his first car. Police officers became a little too familiar with that car if you know what I mean. So he ended up downgrading to a Mustang with a V6.

When my dad was 20 I wouldn't be conceived for anther 12 years. But I think he was driving his Road Runner at the time. A '69 lime green 383 4 speed car. Maybe his Charger, I dunno, but he had some cool stuff.

I wasn't born when my dad was 28. He was rolling around in some form of Lada or Zastava 750(aka Fiat 500).

Hmmm ... when my dad was 45, that would have been 1971. And that means ...

1970 Datsun 510 (4-door automatic) - horrible car, rusted out in 2 years, but '71 would have been when it was still around ... Not this exact car but similar.

Or, 1966 Rambler Classic, 232 6 cylinder automatic. Not this, but similar, and mouse-coloured.

I'm 47 and I would have been three at the time. That puts me in his '63 Nova. Naturally his was a 6 popper with an automatic. It's a handsome body style, so I'd love one now. His was white with a brown interior.

It looked much like this, but not as clean. They're just damn handsome cars.

That would have been one of these, but in a blue metallic.

He would also have been seen on one of these :

Yes, he still misses the motorcycle (last seen in 1978) but he has the newspaper clippings from when he was in a military stunt team.

I wasn't around for another long while - but either one of these

    Or one of these

Not sure exactly when he went from the '69 to the '71.

  33. 10-12-2012 04:59 PM #33
Ok, I am 42 so that would be his 1986 Jetta Coupe.

  34. 10-12-2012 05:46 PM #34
well I was not born yet, 26, born in 1985, but my dad was 26 in 1972, so that would put him this car, not identical obviously. He worked for a toyota dealership in Belgium. It was some green color, I remember my mom saying it was not very nice (to her).

In 1985 my dad was 31 and I was 4 and he was building the house I grew up in.

Ours was white and ended up rotting in the field behind his business until the late 90s. Although we did eventually have a red one as well and used the white one as a parts car. I think between aunts and other family there were probably 5 of these spread out across the family.
