When my father was 60 I was 36. He was driving a new 735i and I was driving a new 750iL. I still have that car.

Dad had a '83 Ford Ranger 5 speed lifted 6" on 35" tires.
Extended cab with the 2 jumpseats.
I would "learn to drive" it later, I was 12, he was hammered, we were on the point in Cape Hatteras

Not this exact one, but this is very close, his was green:

    Mom had a volare wagon

Which died on the road with my brother and I in it at ages 2 and 5, so we got a used Aerostar

The short one, not the longer somehow uglier one

Well im 17. So my dad would be rolling around in this:

Not this exact one but very close. old cop car his dad surprised him with. The speedo went to 160 like it could ever get there. Called it the big white whale. Could sit in the back seat and reach all the way forward and not reach the front seat. don't make them like they use to!

Nearly all of them died at inappropriate times, usually not too long after they were built!

Sadly, he didn't live to be my age, but this is what he was driving when he was a year younger than me.

He was 31 in '83, so he was driving an'80 Ford Fairmont wagon. Sometimes I wish I could find a clean one (pretty much impossible) and put a 5.0 in it, as well as other Mustang parts.

When my dad was my age I had a sweet ride: the 1979 Cozy Coupe. It was easily the most reliable car I ever owned but man was it prone to rollover!

I don't know much about my dad at all. I was raised by my grandparents, so when my grandfather was my age(28) he was driving a:

    '53 plymouth cranbrook http://www.google.com/search?num=10&....1._NYqjK8D0_s
(sorry, it takes a long time for me to load pics on my comp)

Last year for the '50-'53 cranbrook. I was the first and only car he ever bought new. It was mostly mercurys after that(his current car is a '00 sable). The cranbrook, which he describes as having been a very reliable commuter, was t-boned and totalled.

My dad was 47 in 1973. We had a 1973 Ford Country Squire (in light blue):

In 1971 I was still 12 years off (my dad only had kids when he was in his 40s).

I believe he had his Volvo 142 back then. If not he had a VW Beetle.

When my father was 31 he drove this. Of course it was much cleaner, this is just a file pic. I miss his 240 DL 4-speed. When we weren't on busy roads he would let me shift gears for him. Thus started my love affair with manuals.

My dad was 29 in '92. My 9 year old self cruised with him in this:

1990 Acura legend coupe. This car was and always be the business, in my eyes. I'd love to own a super clean one some day, if it can be found. Not his, but identical:

^^ That was his "date" car. His daily was a '89 Bronco Eddie Bauer, just like this one:

I'm just your local purveyor of Miata and Nissan Z-car fanboyism.

Let's see, in 1986 when he was 33, we had a 1969 VW Bus and a 1979 Mercury Zephyr.

I'm not 100% sure what my dad drove when he was 36, but I believe it was an 89 Mitsubishi Galant LS. I thought that was THE coolest car back then. I remember when we were looking at the Galants and it was between the more luxo LS and the GS with the neat adjustable suspension and a manual. He obviously went with the LS and an automatic--probably more for my mom than anything else. But that car was the best equipped vehicle they ever owned up to that point. It had power windows, power locks, tilt/slide moonroof, I believe some type of "sport" mode for the tranny, and an awesome (at the time) cassette player with something like an 8 band equalizer. Early adolscent me loved all the 'tech".

Like this, but in much better shape (since it was new) and dark blue:

My dad was 73 in 1986, I was driving a 1980 Arctic White Scirocco S like the one below:

Mine was lightly modified with Zender from and rear Airdam (don't know what you call the rear end equivalent) and a full Bilstien BTS suspension, and I had the seats were recovered in white leather.

To answer the OP's question, when my dad was 50 I was living on my own and driving my own cars.
I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger's hobby. They're always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money... until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

Wish I had pictures (maybe I do but need to look for them).
My dad and my uncle (they had a twin pair o this car bach in the day ), were rolling around in a 1978 Toyota Celica Coupe (white both of them). The things I would to find that car again and surprise him.

Car was sold back when I was 7-8 becuase of some sort of money situation and was sold back then for like $3,500.00 Thing was mint and accident free. Now they are hard to come by even on no rust areas.
Why yes; that she tropper has sideburns...
