TCL advice: 20k for a used car...

Needs to be still under some kind of warranty, on the smaller side, and manual.

Sister asked me what I'd recommend given those factors and as I'm oblivious to anything not built in the 80s or 90s. So I thought I'd ask TCL what they thought my sister should get.

She's already driven and liked the '10 GTI but I don't know the reliability of the dubs these days

Not sure how much of an enthusiast your sister is, but she has pretty much the entire compact class at her disposal to begin with:

2G Mazda3
Mini Cooper
Subaru Impreza


If you're worried about the reliability, that's what the warranty's for, right?
Is she looking to buy private or CPO?
Any other requirements/preferences?

She'd have to be purchasing it from a stealership and she's definetly a little bit more into speed and performance than she'd like to admit.

She already ruled out the civic and says honda and toyota have nothing that interests her.

I'll have to suggest the Cooper and Mazda though, not sure how she'll react to Subaru.

The warranty is for the next couple years thought right? It's not going to be covering it in 5 years unless she extends it, not sure if she plans to do that though.

I think she is almost set on the GTI, our whole family owns a Dub. She is going to be trading in her 2001 Cabrio once it's repaired, it currently needs a new transmission and clutch. It's the 3rd time the transmission has gone out so she's looking for some long term reliability.

Well this just in- "Subaru is ugly or too expensive. Mazda is too expensive and Mini Cooper..." and Cooper reminds her of my slutty Ex.

I love my GTI, Yeah some nitpicky things here and there but thats what the warrenty is for. Nothing serious has ever come up on it, just stuff that was probably in all honesty caused by me.

Speaker amp blown - caused by my friends dumb ass trying to jump my car
Coil Packs
Couple of busted sensors/fuses that would make my heated seats, backup lights and A/C not work

All in all nothing serious

With a simple intake and TBE with stage 2 tune (2k more), i pull close to 33-34 mpgs on long distance highway and run close to 300 WHP

Bonus - all are good on gas, 87 octane to boot.

I got a quote for a SkyActiv i touring for $17 something though it included a loyalty rebate. She can get one out the door for well under $20k so no way they're too expensive.
