I know Bosch is the way to go as far as quality goes but have any of you guys ever replaced your WUR with one from a different brand? I found 2: Python and BWD. Just wanted to hear your guys experience.

Reason I'm asking is because I'm looking to get a different WUR for my car, particularly one from a Audi 5K Turbo model for it's ability to richen up under vacuum pressure. The Bosch unit cost pretty high and I'm not having luck finding a used one really. I've cross referenced part numbers for the 2 mentioned companies above and see that they are quite a bit cheaper. I learned to stick with Bosch products ever since I bought a new distributor for my car and decided to go with a Rich Porter unit which ended up leaking again after 2 weeks . To be honest, I'd rather buy a used Bosch unit then a brand new one of the 2 mentioned companies because I don't know much about them unless you've had experience and can chime in on how they are.

I would never buy any CIS parts new
    Besides sensors
The fact that I can go to nearly any yard and grab a fuel distributor from any one of a handful of old VWs for next to nothing means the price of new parts is more than a little ridiculous

Just wait a bit, and get to know your local yards and parts hoarders; vacuum enriched WURs come up periodically

Where in IL are you? There are a few pick-n-pull and other junkyards in and around IL. I understand it may be pretty rare to find the WUR you're looking for, considering you live in the snow belt.

You might want to try posting in the norcal/pnw sections. Someone may be able to pull the part you're looking for and mail it to you.
    I really suck at smog.

I have found a used bosch unit and will be buying it the following monday

I am still curious to see what others thought of other brand WURs. I usually have a tendency to buy new items, unless it's something discontinued or really out of my price range. Bosch are really expensive, but the other brand ones aren't that bad price-wise. I don't think I'll be buying any of the other brand ones because it seems like no one has ever tried one.
