Like the commentators or not, Speed has given us one practice, quali, and 2.5 hours of race day coverage. With the exception of the compressed, delayed Fox broadcasts, they have all been live.

Looks like FOM is talking with NBC. If NBC wants it, let's hope they throw it on one of their sports networks and we can still get the same coverage of the race.

Bob, Steve, and David would be an added bonus.

That is bad news, the commmentators for Speed were the best at calling the action. I don't know who NBC will use to call the action but they should look at hiring the same crew as they are very knowledgible, call it with much so much insight, and pull no punches.

So SPEED is basically going away...that's a bit depressing despite the fact it has more recently been NASCAR TV. No more F1 in the states unless NBC picks it up then? It would be better if Discovery's Velocity channel got F1 and Le Mans as they already have some WRC coverage. Plus SPEED hasn't had a lot of good programming beyond coverage of live events. So Velocity wins that area too. It would be nice to see live F1 races next year...

Already have 2 plus the wife and myself this year, we might be lodging another 2 though.
I have some friends that live in a small house in town and they have rented it out for the weekend at a ~$20k rate for the 3 days.

I've watched (at least parts of) nearly every F1 race for something like 25 years. Someone better pick this up, and air every freaking race, along with qualifying. I expect to see Varsha, Hobbs and Matchett there as well. Anything less would just plain suck.

nice. my dad and i planned on going, but changed plans after realized everything was booked and even crappy hotels wanted $400+ a night with 3 night minimums. I'll watch it from the comfort of my house and be a few grand richer

Oh boy. I can't wait to hear the lengthy explanations of basic F1 stuff for the Nascrap audience who tuned in by accident.

If NBC treats this like their ALMS coverage or Fox's F1 coverage and tape delay everything, I might as well not watch F1 at that point....

Sucks for all the other racing series Speed carries, though at least something like Le Mans you can find online streams relatively easily, F1 is hard to do...

yea its pretty annoying when fox (local) broadcasts 3-4 f1 races in the summer and the commentators need to explain everything over and over again

"Now in formula one, the wheels are center locking, unlike in Nascar where there are five lug nuts, there is only one big one in the middle of an F1 wheel. That means that there are less lug nuts to undo, which means that the pit stop takes less time. In addition, formula one engines do not have carburetors, unlike in Nascar engines which do have carburetors."

I assume that all of the races will be on NBC Sports Network, not the over-the-air NBC. When NBC Sports Network had the Tour de France this year, they did broadcast coverage of the first Saturday on regular NBC as a "commercial" for NBC Sports Network, and then didn't offer any other weekend coverage on broadcast NBC. They might follow the same formula with an early race or two on broadcast tv?

also, Nascar motors aren't carb'ed any more. they switched to a novel throttle body injection, just as inefficient.

When NBC Sports Network took over the TdF, I believe they brought in all of the good commentators from what used to be OLN and Versus. But maybe those channels were part o fthe NBC family. I don't know, I haven't had cable in 10 years.

This is a bummer if it's true. I actually like the current setup and commentators. Having actual former drivers and engineers is a big plus in my book. I just hope that someone else picks it up and keeps it pretty close to what they have now.
