I like how everyone in TCL is turning around and blaming the op. For real? A shop screws up and it's automatically the customer's fault for going to the shop? Especially going for the first time? I wish I could blame every mistake that ever happens at work on the customers, that would be great!

Screws up? They wrote on a part of the car that will never be seen. Ever. Just wipe it off and stop ****ing complaining.

There was no damage done to the ops car. Not sure what the big deal is. Markings were put on his oil pan with a paint marker (something most techs do), and it can be easily removed with your nail or a credit card...it flakes off.

Some people are super weird about stuff like that.

I never knew who it was, but someone who was employed by the last place I worked at used to write 'FAH' on say a quality sign off, then 'Q' somewhere else. There were random boxes with FAH Q written all over the building, and parts shipped to customers with this message somewhere on them (sometimes he wrote it inside the part where no one would look etc).

Some people write their own name on bathroom walls, or carve stupid little pictures or jokes for others to enjoy.

People are weird occasionally. I would do nothing, clean it off... and never... ever go back to that oil change shop.

At least it wasn't one of the usual "left a quickie lube place, 10 blocks later my engine seized" stories.

And 5 quarts isn't going to harm your engine. +/- .5 quarts is no big deal short term......unless y are racing the car. I bet the reading on the dip stick isn't even above the max line with 5 quarts in there. I know my 1.8T wasn't.

The point about the oil level on the dipstick makes me wonder, how does the OP know they put in 5 qts of oil? Was the level too high on the stick, or was he simply charged for 5 quarts of oil?

If he was charged for 5 quarts of oil, I'd guess it has something to do with oil being sold by the quart. You can't cut a bottle of oil in two and only buy one half. And I doubt Midas has full synthetic 5w40 in their bulk oil pump.

What principle? The tech didn't do anything wrong or damage the op's car. Look at most modern cars and you will find that same paint on nuts and bolts put there by the factory. Should we be mad at the factory now as well? Or maybe I should have yelled at the tech who did the timing belt and water pump on my last TDi and marked the block with the date and mileage the belt was done.

The last time I had my former 968 worked on, RS Barn (968 specialist) marked my oil filter with that same paint. Maybe I should have yelled at them as well.

I just think peoples property should be respected when they are left in your care. I dont really care if its a Ferrari or Cavalier, if you leave it at the valet or mechanic they should treat it w respect. Maybe writting on the oil pan is not a big deal to you, but maybe it is to OP. Maybe you left your 10yr old EVO at the Valet and they drove it like their stole it. Sure, Evos and other cars of that nature are ment to be driven BY THEIR OWNER, not somebody they paid to take care of it.
