I have the HIGHLINE TDI 2011 and I want to warm it up in the morning but lock it at the same time…
I have those keys where I can just approach the door and have it unlocked BUT it doesn't work when the car is locked from the inside…
…Is there any way to lock/unlock the car with the keys if it's on and locked from the inside?

if your that worried about warm up which on this car is useless just use your block heater.

Actually after 10 min the car was blowing warm air and I wasn't freezing so even though I appreciate you guys replying, my question was about locking and unlocking the car with the key while its locked from the inside. The only way to do it now is to break open that piece on the door and insert key..

Oil is designed to do it's job at around 200 degrees. Your engine was designed to work with the oil at that temperature. Although it can be considered a bit ocd...running the oil cold means the viscosity is out of spec from what the engine prefers. This cold oil can cause additional wear on your engine parts.
That's why you generally drive easy and keep rpm's low prior to oil reaching operating temperature so that you can mitigate the engine wear; and even, if you own a tdi, avoid idling as much as possible until the engine has warmed up. I understand your question is far different from the information a few of us provided. We're just trying to give you a heads up.

Hi guys
Just picked up a 2013 GLI last week and I have a similar question. Its freaking freezing here now and I want to warm the car up for a couple minutes before I jump in. Notwithstanding the pros/cons of this I have a question.
I find that once I start the car and leave it running I can't lock it from outside of the car with neither my key fob or the door sensor. Can this be enabled? I went through the convenience options and could not find an applicable option.

Once you start the car with the push button start, the car doesn't stay on if you take the keyfob with you? And if it does, I would think that it would be undriveable if it does not sense the key anymore.
I don't know how VW KESSY works... I don't have it. BUT, I did have an Nissan Altima rental for a few days, (POS btw) and it had kessy. When I left the car on and walked away with the keyfob, the MFD would say NO KEY! NO KEY! and it wouldn't be drivable but would not shut off...
I'm curious if anyone has tried this or would be willing to try it.

The car remains running when you walk away from it.
For instance this morning it was quite frosty and it would have been nice to run the car for a couple minutes allowing the defroster to work its magic while I got lunch ready. But since I cant lock it and murphy's law and all, I didnt.
