Thread: White car, white wheels?

  1. 10-14-2012 09:18 AM #1
I have a 79 rabbit in alpine white. I'm thinking of powder coating my current wheels ronal r10 turbo's completely white. Including lips, windows and faces, while leaving the center caps black. I'm not a huge fan of color matched wheels, but something about white on white looks clean with a low profile tire I'll be running a 165/45 on a 15x7 wheel. It'll also be something a bit different for me until I can find the right splits. Thoughts?

Sounds too tasteful. You'll never get accepted into H20 or WaterFest or any of those cluster****s without outrageously clashing wheels.

I def will. I'll have the boys at 4 ever kustoms pc them. That looks so clean I may even forget about buying splits to concentrate on other areas of the car. Something about keeping it simple/clean on a MKI that I like.

Now painted white center cap, leave the r10 cap as is or paint it black?

Leave the cap as is, as to break up the colors.

Not usually clashing. Complimentary. Big difference... That said, I rarely see cars that pull it off well. Fittment and wheel choice is, IMO, the key.

Does somebody sell those old turbo style wheels new now?

Checking tire rack, the closest thing I could find in a quick search is this:

The color isn't matched perfectly, and that's what is so hard about white on white.

OP, I personally wouldn't do it with Turbos. If you can find another set of wheels with spokes to do it, they'd look much better. But make sure the color is 99% perfectly matched.

Also, don't get really large wheels. One of the key things with white on white is the black of the tire contrasting. In that pic that I quoted, there's not enough tire to balance out all the white.

It will be on a 15x7 wheel with 165/45 rubber. I plan to get a color sample for the powdercoater, but I def feel what your saying. I don't want a alpine white car with a creme colored wheel it'll have to be the right shade or not at all

My 85 Jetta is Alpine white with just some 85 GTI bottlecaps. I like the white wheels on the mk1 but not a mk2.

Totally missed the VR the first time I saw the pic. I was too mesmerized by the R10s...those and the R15s are my fav wheels ever.

I prefer the current polished wheels.

That said, as mentioned, a color matched white wheel (not the ronals) would look good too.

I'm in favor of the white on white, but not sure I'd do it with the Ronals. I'm thinking Compomotive TH Mono in white.

    Deal with it.
