GM U.S. Sales Increase 5 percent in October - Retail sales up 7 percent, fleet down 2 percent
DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) today reported its highest October sales in the United States since 2007, with deliveries up 5 percent versus a year ago to 195,764 vehicles. Year-over-year sales to retail customers were up 7 percent and sales to fleet customers were down 2 percent.

“GM had a solid October in a month that was marked by a devastating national tragedy,” said Kurt McNeil, vice president, U.S. sales operations. “All of us at GM are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the extensive damage caused by the storms, but we’re really encouraged by the national and local response, which will speed the recovery.”

GM’s new cars had a standout performance in October.

“With new designs like the Chevrolet Spark, Buick Verano and Cadillac ATS, and a growing reputation for quality and good resale value, we are becoming an even more formidable competitor in every segment – not just traditional GM strongholds like trucks,” McNeil said.

Sales of GM passenger cars increased 15 percent in October compared with a year ago. Crossovers were up 3 percent and sales of full-size pickup trucks were up 8 percent.

Passenger car sales were driven by a 37 percent increase in Cadillac car sales, a 27 percent increase in Buick car sales and a 12 percent increase in Chevrolet car sales.
Combined sales of mini, small and compact cars were up 72 percent compared with a year ago, driven by strong Spark and Sonic sales and a 34 percent increase in Cruze sales. Chevrolet dealers also delivered a record 2,961 Volts.
Crossover sales were driven by double-digit increases for the Cadillac SRX, GMC Acadia and GMC Terrain.
Overall truck sales were down 2 percent, reflecting lower sales of the GMC and Chevrolet mid-size pickups, which have been discontinued, and large SUVs.
“Year over year, the light vehicle selling rate has increased for eight consecutive quarters without a tailwind from the residential housing sector, but that is starting to change,” said McNeil. “If these trends continue, housing may be the final piece of the puzzle that lifts sales above 15 million units on an annual basis just as GM prepares to launch even more new cars, crossovers and trucks.”

GM will replace 70 percent of its U.S. nameplates with redesigned or all-new vehicles over the course of 2012 - 2013. In anticipation of robust demand, GM has increased its year-end inventory target from the 650,000-unit range to 660,000 to 670,000 units. This change reflects higher planned stocks of new passenger cars. The truck inventory target is unchanged.

General Motors Co. GM -0.67% reported a 13% drop in its third-quarter profit on wider losses in Europe and weaker earnings in North America although much of the financial hit was offset by stronger operating profits in Asia and South America.
Europe is killing GM right now.

Audi sets all-time U.S. October sales record with 14.5% increase, marking 22nd consecutive month of record sales
Premium category vehicles (A8, A7, A6, and Q7) represent nearly 34.1% of October Audi customer deliveries
Audi today reported record-setting October sales of 11,708 new vehicles representing a 14.5% increase above the previous record set in October of last year. October also stands as the 22nd consecutive month of record U.S. performance by the brand with the four rings.

Sales of Audi premium category vehicles (the Audi A8, Audi A7, Audi A6, and Audi Q7) equal 34.1% of total October sales further demonstrating the brand’s upward mobility in the luxury sector. This was a 36% increase of premium vehicles sold. October sales momentum benefitted strongly from robust demand for the progressive Audi A8 and the technologically advanced Audi A6. The A8 generated a 54.7% sales increase for the month, powered by strong demand for the new S8 performance model. The A6 sales increased by 36.6% for the month and posted a 96.8% year-to-date gain when compared to the January-October period of 2011.

Consumer interest in the efficient and sporty A3 contributed to a 59.7% increase in sales in October, while the redesigned Audi A4 contributed a 20.6% increase in sales. The Audi Q7 also performed favorably with an increase of 42.7% for the month of October.

“The newly launched models in our performance lines – the Audi S6, S7, S8 and RS 5 – have been huge success stories by virtually selling out shortly after hitting showrooms,” said Mark Del Rosso, Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “It’s clear that premium car buyers are excited about the new generation of cars at the top of our lineup with the Audi A6, A7, A8 and Q7 models constituting 71% of our sales gain in October.”

Sales mix for Audi TDI clean diesel models finish the month at 44.5% for the A3 TDI and 28.5% for Q7 TDI
      • Audi Certified pre-owned sales of 2,663 vehicles sold amounted to the second-best October in Audi history, despite the reduced inventory of available models for the program.

Once you're dealing with 1971 numbers, you're getting close to "best ever" in the U.S. It was about that time that their sales started their downward trend, so these are pretty big numbers. Especially since they were once considering the possibility of maybe pulling out. Perhaps.

It barely outsold the A8, and that was with some lease deals to push out leftover inventory.

I suspect the A3 sedan will probably nearly match A4 sales when it arrives.

When you are being outsold by the Chevy Volt big % sales increases are not hard to come by.

Glad to see the Volt selling well, although I'm hoping they do an amazing lease deal as they did a few months ago. I want to get one but I need a terrific deal to convince the wife.

3K+ C-Maxes for Ford seems pretty good for a new model with basically no prior name recognition or equity in the US.

KIA MOTORS AMERICA ANNOUNCES RECORD OCTOBER SALES

      Annual Sales Up 17.8 Percent;
Optima and Sorento Top October Sales

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 1, 2012 - Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced best-ever October sales with 42,452 units sold, a 12.6-percent increase over the same period in 2011. October once again saw KMA's U.S.-built* vehicles – the Optima midsize sedan and Sorento CUV – take the top sales honors. Kia's year-to-date sales are up 17.8-percent over 2011.

Awareness, perception and consideration for the Kia brand continue to improve through a series of high-profile partnerships and initiatives. In October, Kia debuted a new Optima ad campaign featuring NBA superstar and brand ambassador Blake Griffin, and unveiled four Justice League superhero-inspired custom cars at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show.

"The Kia brand continues to grow and mature in the U.S. market and with seven all-new and refreshed vehicles scheduled to arrive in showrooms in 2013, including the all-new 2014 Forte sedan and redesigned Sorento that will be unveiled at this month's Los Angeles Auto Show, Kia will continue its efforts to advance value to new levels of sophistication," said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia.

      Kia's Unprecedented Growth
Kia Motors is one of the world's fastest moving global automotive brands; from 2009-2011 Kia launched more new vehicles in the U.S. than any other automaker, and under the guidance of chief design officer Peter Schreyer earned a reputation as an industry leader in automotive styling. Kia Motors America's full line of fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive cars and CUVs has earned critical acclaim and dramatically increased consumer awareness, perception and consideration for the brand. In 2011, KMA recorded its 17th consecutive year of market share growth, thanks in part to the largest increase of any major brand in perceived quality1 and the industry's highest brand loyalty ranking2. Kia's U.S.-based manufacturing facility in West Point, Georgia – KMMG – is responsible for the creation of more than 10,000 plant and supplier jobs and builds two of the company's best-selling vehicles in the U.S. – the Sorento CUV and Optima midsize sedan*. Kia's value and technology-laden lineup also includes the Sportage compact CUV, Soul urban passenger vehicle, Optima Hybrid, Forte compact sedan, Forte 5-door compact hatchback, Forte Koup two-door coupe, Rio and Rio 5-door sub-compacts and Sedona minivan.

Last month, I said I was willing to give the new Malibu till the end of the calendar year to gain traction. But with sales under 10K units for October, the situation is becoming laughable. GM has tens of thousands of these things in stock (check cars.com to see for yourself) and evidently they are just not moving. By comparison, the Altima was ~24K, Accord ~28K, Camry ~29K for the month. I haven't seen numbers this embarrassing for a family-sedan launch since the '04 Galant. They could have slapped the new touch-screen radios in the old car and sold it for a few more years, and it would've done better than this.

Fortunately Chevy as a whole isn't imploding -- the Cruze, Sonic and Spark had another solid performance, with the Spark (unlike the Malibu) being inventory-constrained. The Volt's been doing very well too, though I've heard there are huge incentives on them, so I'm sure it's not exactly a money-maker yet.

If you subtract the Countryman from MINI, it looks like Fiat is right on its heels volume wise!?!

Looks like Jaguar dealers are awaiting the new, updated & AWD products. [/QUOTE]

Yeah, almost 4,000 Fiat 500 in a month - they are on track of selling 50,000/year, soon.

Chevy still has to ditch the old Impala, which has now proven to be a drain on the last two generations of Malibu. I think the new Impala and Malibu will play nicely together, however. In the short term, however, I bet GM is trying to figure a way to cram a V6 into the Malibu.
