Apologies if this is a repost but I hadn't seen a thread about it. From a BMW NA meeting recently:

I'm guessing four cylinder in the 3-series and X3, six cylinder the in X5, 5-series, and 7-series.

The news of a diesel wagon is especially interesting and should get some TCLers pretty excited.

    2.0 or 3.0 in the 3 series? I'm betting 2.0.

Good, the 2.0 is the right choice. The 328i already gets 34MPG highway, a 3.0D wouldn't do that much better.

I hope it's the 2.0. The performance diesel thing didn't translate into a runaway sales success in E90 form...would be nice if the diesel was focused on being the fuel economy leader.

Diesel 3-series wagon. TCL just had a collective 'gasm.

Until it's auto or AWD only, and then they won't buy it.

RWD and auto only. Except for Canada where it will offer AWD and a stick.

That seems like a good idea for BMW to offer. Its only competition is the cheaper non luxury Jetta Sportswagon TDI. Even though wagons are niche in the US there is still a market for luxury wagons. I saw alot of Mercedes wagons when I was up in Connecticut.

If that's true I'd consider buying one just to torment the rest of TCL.

Luxury wagons still have a place, especially in New England. I'd be on board to look into a diesel wagon in a few years. A wagon is definitely in the plans, it's just a matter of them being available or even sold in Merica.

I'd throw them all out the door for the opportunity to lease this. Wouldn't care if it was auto only either, I love the new 5 series.

Dunno. The new 5-series is pretty Lexus-y, and it feels very much like the SWB 7-series that it is. Which is fine, but disappointing given that the 5-series has historically not been a numb, cushy cruiser.

but they would have my business if they offered that car with a 6speed manual.

    No X1 diesel?!? I'm disappointed!!!

But if there's a diesel 3 wagon with manual I'll get one.

used to care about 6-speed, but will take the 8-speed-auto.

doesn't matter if it comes in the 320d or 328d/335d for me!

    Make sure its m-sport,

Who wants to do ED in the fall for a wagon in the fall? (vwvortex meetup!)

Don't get hung up on the number "5" -- it used to mean "the middle one" but that's not really been true since the 1 series came out almost 10 years ago. BMW is really filling out the range of cars below the 5 series so the 5 going in the luxury direction instead of the sport direction actually makes sense.

What I'd really like to see from them, though, is a 3 series-sized car with 5 series amenities.

Sign me up for an X3d. I'd be satisfied with a Tiguan TDI too, I'm not that picky.

There is still a place for them in the NW too. My last car was a wagon and my current car would have been if VW had offered the same seats and the HID headlights in a JSW. That's really what got me into a Golf instead.

Careful, sometimes people actually buy the car that they say they want. See above for why it isn't a wagon.

Lately I have been testing "tip-in events". Just the tip-in. Just to see how it feels. Response time is typically on the order of 2-3 seconds. Sometimes the injection timing is a little off...

Isnt a 50k 3 Series enough? Giving it 5 series amenities would be overkill.

Just poking fun at US diesel buyers

On a serious note I could see Canada taking diesel options the US doesn't get. Some lower volume products like hatchbacks and wagons might just plain sell better in Canada than the US.
