Current State of Fuel in NY + APR ECU Tune = Recipe for Disaster???

A very good friend of mine asked the BP Attendant today on Horace Harding whether they had premium gas, and the attendant responded no premium since the hurricane, and most other stations won't have either. The few that do, are dumping another tanker of regular in to the premium reservoir and then overcharging customers.

I JUST filled up at a BP this morning on "premium" (and over-charged), and with what I read here about fuel requirements on an APR tune - I am wondering:

- what can happen if my current map is the 93 Octane Map, but the fuel is actually below 93 octane?
- possible engine damage?
- Should I revert to the "Stock" map until this tank is emptied out?

HELP! If an APR rep reads this - pls provide a response if possible!

buy a can of octane boost, 1 or 2 tanks wont kill you

Revert to the stock map if you have that option.

I can't even take my car out because the needle is on E and I'll blow up my poor motor with anything under 91 grade

STP is what I have always used in the past with my ye olde american V8s. The fuel is definitly screwed up I am sure. Lucky me I filled up before the storm and just did another tank out in PA near allentown last night. Im gonna try and stay away from getting premium in NJ for as long as I can now.

i use lucas, its about $10 a bottle. got good reviews and i never had an issue.

Go to the hardware store and get yourself a gallon or two of toluene. Its octane rating is 114, so if you add it in a ratio of 1:5 you'll get a little less than 93 octane. It way cheaper than normal store bought octane booster and is easier to buy in large amounts.

Most places are putting 87 in the 93 tanks and selling it as 93. Its really messed up atm.

I was told thats illegal and it cant happen. I of course said whats going to stop these idiots from doing it. If you suspect this or know of it, call your local weights and measures. Esp if its in NJ. They can have that station shut down in just a few hours and some hefty fines.

Wow I did not even know they were doing that. Luckily I only use my beater right now and that takes regular so I don't have to worry about that. How can you even tell if you're getting regular when paying for "premium"

As stated, switch to stock mode before filling up with 87.

Even if you do a couple of tanks of 87 the timing will adapt and you won't have permanent damage from such a short time of running it with low grade fuel. (That's the answer I got from an APR rep directly)

When you can get 93oct. run the car to almost empty with what's left of 87oct.
Then fill up with 93 and run till empty still in stock mode. Timing adjusts.
On the second tank of 93 feel free to switch it to 93 program.

I did that, runs like a champ.

Octane booster....you'll need many bottles for it to make much of a difference...Will end up being a lot of $ spent.

Also, Westchester gas stations have 93 no prob. I've filled up several times by me and in Yonkers.
