      Hey guys;
I'm going on a long road trip today so I wanted to clean out the Jetta. I took out the seats, did my thing, and put them back. Now the Airbag light is on.

Is there a way to reset it? I tried disconnecting the battery for a minute, that didn't work.

      Any other way?

No, you need VCDS/VAGCOM to reset it.

I have read too many stories of people spending upwards of $500 replacing items with the airbag system
to have that light come right back on. Nothing that I did cannot be undone in 15 mins.
I chose to tape over the LED's, as well as the back of the tach face. This was done with electrical tape.

I have the same issue but I was told that the airbags are still going to work even with the light on. The light only came on because at some point your car lost connection with the airbag and was all like wtf, mate?! Next time you can prevent this by disconnecting the battery prior to disconnecting the airbags and reconnecting the battery after the airbags are reconnected. Only VAGCOM can reset it but I wouldn't worry about it.

      that is incorrect.

as long as the airbag light is on, they will NOT function. the issue could be related to the seat belt tensioner, which if malfunctioning, could cause death with the airbags functioning.

when the light is ON, the function is OFF. this is true for: ABS, ASR, airbags, etc.

and I believe that it has to be a full Vag-Com, not the VCDS-lite. I tried to clear my airbag light for a while with my vdcs-lite and it never did anything. Had a buddy use his full version Vag-Com and it cleared it and never returned.

Could be a coincidence, who knows.

      Yea, reset the light.
For it to come right back on for no good reason.
Pull the cluster & cover it.
The system will still function should it need to.

Vag-Com lite won't clear the airbag code.
      But for real,
Find a shop with MODIS & be sure that your code isn't a "real" code & deal with it accordingly.
