Chrysler Group LLC today reported U.S. sales of 152,367 units, a 10 percent increase compared with sales in December 2011 (138,019 units), and the group's best December sales since 2007.
The Chrysler, Dodge, Ram Truck and FIAT brands each posted year-over-year sales gains in December compared with the same month last year. The FIAT brand's 59 percent increase was the largest sales gain of any Chrysler Group brand for the month. December marked Chrysler Group's 33rd-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.

For the year, Chrysler Group sales totaled 1,651,787 units, up 21 percent compared with sales in 2011. The Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge, Ram Truck and FIAT brands each recorded significant sales gains during 2012 compared with sales in the previous year. The Jeep brand's 13 percent sales increase in the U.S. helped push its global sales to an all-time record in 2012. Seven Chrysler Group models set annual sales records in 2012.

"Chrysler Group ended 2012 on a strong note with December sales up 10 percent and our best December sales since 2007," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Dodge Brand and Head of U.S. Sales. "Looking back on 2012, we were again one of the fastest growing automakers in the country with total sales up 21 percent. The all-new Dodge Dart, which just earned a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, played a big role in Chrysler Group's 10 percent sales increase in December. Dart sales were up 36 percent month-over-month in December, the compact car's best monthly sales performance since it went on sale in June.

Also contributing to Chrysler Group's 10 percent increase were the Fiat 500, Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Journey, and Ram Cargo Van, each setting a sales record for the month of December. Audi sets new U.S. sales record of 139,310 vehicles in 2012; December ranks as best month ever

Audi ends year with 24th consecutive month of record sales; all-time bests recorded across all regions, throughout model lineup
Audi today announced that 2012 was the best year, and that December 2012 was the best month, in its history of selling new vehicles in the U.S. market.

For the full year, Audi sold 139,310 new cars and SUVs to eclipse the previous sales record set a year earlier by 18.5%. Audi sales in the U.S. have increased 68.4% just since 2009.

December 2012 marked the first time Audi monthly sales have topped 13,000 units, with strong demand throughout the month pushing deliveries to 14,841 vehicles. That’s a 17.3% increase over the previous December sales record of 12,655 units in 2011. The most recent December also stands as the 24th consecutive month of record sales for Audi in the U.S. Audi began recording U.S. sales in February 1970.

The American market will remain a key engine of growth for Audi globally, and the strength of the brand in the U.S. was demonstrated in a wide array of measures in 2012:
      • For December 2012, The Audi A8 and Audi A7 generated the best U.S. sales since the new-generation models arrived in the market. With strong demand for the Audi A6 and Audi Q7 full-sized SUV added in, Audi saw sales of its most premium models equal 32% of all Audi sales in 2012, up from 19% in 2009.

      • The popular Audi Q5 crossover, the second-best seller for the brand in 2012, produced the best monthly sales since the model’s introduction.

      • Sales of Audi clean diesel A3 TDI and Q7 TDI models set a new record for the year. Audi announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November that it will add A8 TDI, A7 TDI, A6 TDI and Q5 TDI models in 2013.

      • The U.S. finished as one of the strongest global markets for performance oriented S-models. The Audi S8, S7 and S6 models introduced last fall finished 2012 as some of the fastest selling vehicles available to American car buyers.

      • Each of the three Audi U.S. regions – Eastern, Southern and Western – turned in record sales for the full year. For 2013, Audi is adding a Central region to maintain a steady level of service to customers and dealers as the brand grows.

      • Sales in the biggest metropolitan markets – New York, Los Angeles, South Florida – achieved record levels in 2012.

American Suzuki Motor Corporation Announces December 2012 Automobile Sales Of 1,946 Units

BREA, Calif., Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) reported today December 2012 automobile sales of 1,946 units, a 620 unit decline compared to the same period last year. The results were attributed to a decrease in available inventory as the company allocates its remaining automobiles in the U.S. to retail auto dealerships.

"Now is a great time to purchase a Suzuki: 98% of Suzuki auto dealers have confirmed they will remain parts and continued service locations, and many are offering attractive financing options and incentives," said M. Freddie Reiss , Chief Restructuring Officer for American Suzuki Motor Corporation.
A final shipment of 2,500 vehicles is being shipped from Japan this month and will be distributed to auto dealers around the country.
Full-year 2012 auto sales declined 5% compared with 2011, with total vehicle sales of 25,358 units.

ASMC announced plans on November 5, 2012 to realign its business to focus on the long-term growth of its Motorcycles/ATV and Marine divisions and to wind down and discontinue new automobile sales in the continental U.S. ASMC will, however, continue to honor all automobile warranties according to their terms, including the warranties of newly purchased vehicles.
In fact, 215 of ASMC's 219 U.S. automotive dealers have agreed to the terms of the company's Dealer Settlement Agreement to help provide automobile parts and service without interruption after the company's restructuring. This number includes all of the top 50 U.S. dealers and represents more than 98% of the total volume of ASMC's continental U.S. automobile market.

The Dart is gaining traction. Fiat/Chrysler has shown with the Fiat 500 that they can turn around a slow launch of a small car (not that the Dart is so small). Hopefully, the Dart continues to post monthly sales gains! I am happy to see all 3 Detroit-based companies fielding solid compact entries for the first time EVER.

What a photo finish for BMW and Mercedes! And they're both outselling Lexus by a pretty significant margin.

      GM:

The SRX is killing it at Cadillac, and the XTS and ATS are closing in on the CTS.

The Verano is Buick's best-selling sedan.

If you compare against last year... aka carpocalypse time.

Though you really are seeing where all the buyers from those that left the us have gone. Sandy also contributed to December sales.

It looks like Cadillac will finish 2012 about 100K units behind BMW and Benz. I know that quantity does not equal quality, but I imagine that Caddy wants to lead luxury sales in it's home market. How does Cadillac close the gap? Escalade sales seem to have collapsed while SRX sales have taken off. It seems that the smaller end of the crossover/SUV market is where the growth is. Caddy definitely needs a CUV smaller than the SRX. They might even need a sedan smaller than the ATS, to close the gap with the big Germans. If Buick sales are grouped with Caddy's, GM's share of the premium/luxury market is much more favorable. I wonder if having to split the premium/luxury pie is keeping GM/Caddy from investing in more models and more growth oriented smaller vehicle segments?

Escalade sales seem to have collapsed while SRX sales have taken off. It seems that the smaller end of the crossover/SUV market is where the growth is. Caddy definitely needs a CUV smaller than the SRX. They might even need a sedan smaller than the ATS, to close the gap with the big Germans. If Buick sales are grouped with Caddy's, GM's share of the premium/luxury market is much more favorable. I wonder if having to split the premium/luxury pie is keeping GM/Caddy from investing in more models and more growth oriented smaller vehicle segments?
I think it's a little too early to judge their sales. A full year of ATS/XTS sales just as they are now would have added around 30,000 more sales. But their sales are likely to increase as they catch on. So just based on their portfolio as it is today, the gap would close considerably by the end of 2013. The new CTS won't likely add too many more net sales considering it will be more expensive and could steal some XTS sales, but the new Escalade will likely bring a sizeable increase. And the ELR could add 5,000 sales as well. So their portfolio as it will stand at the end of 2013 will also go some distance in closing the gap.

The all-new Azera continues to sell at a quick pace and saw sales gains of 453 percent for the year.
I never would've guessed that from the actual sales numbers. When you look at those, it still seems to be quite the laggard. I would've expected it to sell somewhat better than what it is since it seems to be a nice package. I prefer it to the Genesis sedan in many ways.

Why is the Dart in the wrong category?

I am flabbergasted by the tenure of the Enclave and 5-series (8385)! .... A6 is up by only 1.1%.

I found it a little funny that BMW puts the X1 in the "car" category. It's a crossover, yet it's so low to the ground.

      Well, crossover in name only.

E84 X1 is a full member of the E9x family so it really a E91 wagon with a tiny suspension lift. Think of it as "3 series allroad" or "3 series outback".

BMW USA considers it a replacement for the E91 wagon, it's the only reason why we got the X1. We were going to get shut out for the F31 wagon but enough people protested so we will end up getting both.

      No.

There hasn't been a recession since 2009. The overall auto market expanding is a sign of the economic growth that has been occurring. The auto industry is far from recession-proof. It's one of the first sectors hit anytime there is a recession.
