Thread: 2015 Mustang partial front end design revealed

    1. 03-22-2013 09:59 PM #36
It's apparently just something from a blogger event held last year, thus the Fusion render in the background, and not a recently leaked image. They're all, it seems, design exercises and not leaks.

No need for tease leaks anymore.. i think we already have a good idea how the new mustang is going to look..

Right, because Ford totally needs two RWD sports coupes in the $30K range. Makes perfect sense.

Doesnt make any sense to have two same sized coupes one fwd one rwd.
I said no to the fusion coupe (fwd), i rather it be a mustang (rwd)

Given that one of the vehicles cross-shopped with the Mustang is the Honda Accord Coupe, it might make some sense after all. They used to have the 'Stang, Probe, and T-Bird all at one time, after all...

I really can't wait to see what Ford does with the Mustang. They've always kind of had it on its own from a styling standpoint. I hope it doesn't take too many cues from the Fusion. I mean, I like the Fusion and all, but I really hope they don't intend for the 'Stang to be a Fusion coupe a la BMW 3 and 4 series.

No. No it is not. The Ford Mustang was discontinued in 1974. Production resumed in 1979.

Yes, rumored to replace the v6. The v8 will still be an option, unless the blindside us with the v6t instead of a v8.

Still the 2.3l will make 400hp easily with bolt ons and a tune.

Not true. No one knows where the 2.3L will fit in the US lineup. There is some thought that the V6 will remain the base motor with the 2.3L being optional. In europe, which maybe is what you're basing your post on, the 2.3L likely has a greater likelihood of being the base motor, IMO.

I thought they confirmed we are getting the ecoboost? I know there are conflicting articles but you're right. Who knows yet. I'm also skeptical that it will be light, and smaller like the Ford forums are rumor milling.

Don't be. Even the 2.0l ecoboost has a very efficient turbo. Company I used to work with has a ST making almost APR stage 3 numbers on the stock turbo. They had it on the dyno last time I was there dialing in a IC sprayer.

*Edit: And with what Ford is saying the Focus RS will put out with the 2.3l ecoboost, I think 400hp will be easy when its base is 330hp. A decent tune and 3" turbo back should put you close to that 400hp mark, so I would expect the same in the Mustang. But that's just speculation, Ford may release the car with freer flowing components noone knows yet

It would make more sense for the new generation mustang to get the 4cyl turbo.
V6 has always been too close to a v8, doesnt make any sense in this age anymore.

Only some Mustang IIs had it. Fox body Mustangs didn't have it. 4th gens barely did.

      I do not agree.

1966: You missed this one entirely

1969: Mach 1 had a version of it with the duct behind the door (might or might not count for some)

      1974: (which you acknowledged)

1987: One might argue that the GT model saw a nod to the design with the side skirt duct just before the rear wheels

1994: I would not qualify this as "barely" having it. Looks pretty prominent to me. (the car pictured is a 95, but same difference)

1999: Very prominent on the New Edge refresh/redesign

      2005: Subtle, but its there.

      2010: Again, subtle but there.

I argue that it's there through more design cycles than not.

The point I was making is that you said the surfacing was an iconic design feature, when not every Mustang had it. And anyway, in that drawing of the new Mustang, the scalloping is there... It's just subtle like on the current gen.
