I think the bad image for the Mustang II (even though it sold gangbusters when out) is that it replaced the macho Mach I style Mustang.. and didn't even have a V8 until later and then a lo-po V8 due to emissions (low compression low redline).
But the engine can be fixed now.
Also the subsequent Fox Mustang quickly achieved iconic status which made the Pinto Mustang II look even worse. When in reality, the car wasn't all that bad.

Yep my biggest beef with it at least when I drove mine (yep I bought one years ago) was the engine/tranny combo it just drove too much like a Pinto and nothing like a Mustang there was absolutely nothing exciting about it.

Now looking at what can be done with them I desperately want to get into one and drop a mod V8 into one, I like them more than Fox bodies.

Rookie mistake. It's better to copy the image and link that, or at least back it up just in case something like this happens.

Here's the original picture that was taken down.
Apparently it was posted to the Ford Facebook page a couple of months ago?

It's the front end of the Fusion. The only clay model in all these photos that actually could be the Mustang is the fastback coupe one.

Would be cool if this is just a Fusion coupe to go against the Accord Coupe, but if it is indeed the Mustang I have nothing against it.
      No! lets keep this rwd!

Right, I should've mentioned that. I put it up mainly for people that hadn't seen it yet and were wondering what picture people were talking about.

      Looks pretty cool.

Wouldn't all of this clay model stuff have happened quite a while ago?

If it's a 2015 model, I'm assuming the final design was locked down long ago and there are pre-production prototypes running around by now.
      Yarp or narp?

Yea there have been test mules spotted already (see that site with the pics) but they've been with the current Mustang body (on next gen chassis).

There have been mules spotted with the new front-end, or at least an early version of it

It's apparently just something from a blogger event held last year, thus the Fusion render in the background, and not a recently leaked image. They're all, it seems, design exercises and not leaks.

Right, because Ford totally needs two RWD sports coupes in the $30K range. Makes perfect sense.

Doesnt make any sense to have two same sized coupes one fwd one rwd.
I said no to the fusion coupe (fwd), i rather it be a mustang (rwd)

Given that one of the vehicles cross-shopped with the Mustang is the Honda Accord Coupe, it might make some sense after all. They used to have the 'Stang, Probe, and T-Bird all at one time, after all...

I really can't wait to see what Ford does with the Mustang. They've always kind of had it on its own from a styling standpoint. I hope it doesn't take too many cues from the Fusion. I mean, I like the Fusion and all, but I really hope they don't intend for the 'Stang to be a Fusion coupe a la BMW 3 and 4 series.

No. No it is not. The Ford Mustang was discontinued in 1974. Production resumed in 1979.

Isn't the new one supposed to have 4cyl Ecoboost as a base motor?

Yes, rumored to replace the v6. The v8 will still be an option, unless the blindside us with the v6t instead of a v8.

Still the 2.3l will make 400hp easily with bolt ons and a tune.
